I Spent A Month In India. I Won’t Be Back
India was always the country I wanted to visit the most
For the longest time, I wanted to travel to India. I came close on many occasions, but I always said that I needed at least six months to immerse myself properly. That somehow never materialised.
Something always came up.
It was always the thing I would get to next.
Then my health took a turn for the worse and a health clinic in India became a beacon of hope. I started researching the benefits of Ayurverda and panchakarmas, and I was convinced it was for me.
In the end, I went with a laundry list of issues. Although none of them improved (some even got worse), that’s not the reason I won’t go back. The reason I won’t go back is more philosophical.
I learned too much, I sacrificed too much, and I shed too many skins to return the same person I am today. The old me can never return because that’s not who I am anymore.
It’s just as Heraclitus once said, “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”
I might not be as healed as I’d like to be, but India left a lasting impression on me in a number of other ways.
