## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Real Estate AU & NZ Search by URLs and Keywords

Search public residential property listings on **realestate.com.au** and **realestate.co.nz** using saved search URLs or place/suburb keywords. The Actor returns one stable JSON row per listing and supports light pagination, listing detail URLs, sale/rent intent, and concise or detailed output.

### Input

```json
{
  "country": "au",
  "searchQueries": ["Sydney NSW", "Melbourne VIC"],
  "listingType": "sale",
  "maxResults": 50,
  "maxPagesPerSource": 3,
  "responseFormat": "detailed"
}
```

Use `startUrls` when you already have URLs, for example `https://www.realestate.com.au/buy/in-sydney/list-1` or `https://www.realestate.co.nz/residential/sale/auckland`. The actor also accepts individual public listing URLs.

### Output

Rows include `source`, `listingUrl`, `address`, `price`, `priceText`, `currency`, `bedrooms`, `bathrooms`, `parkingSpaces`, `landSize`, `propertyType`, `description`, `agentName`, `agentPhone`, `agencyName`, `imageUrls`, coordinates when published, `scrapedKeywords`, and `warnings`.

The actor reads public page content only. It does not return owner identities, private MLS fields, login-only data, or bypass authentication. Site markup can change; rows preserve warnings and nulls when a public field is unavailable.

### Billing

PPE is configured at $0.005 per listing returned plus the Actor-start event. Enable Apify Pay-Per-Usage alongside PPE for heavy runs. A typical 50-result run costs about $0.25 in result events before platform compute/proxy usage.

### MCP-friendly behavior

Use this tool for Australian or New Zealand listing discovery by public search URL or place keyword. Do not use it for agent-only lookup, owner data, private MLS data, or arbitrary web search. Results are flat, stable, and capped by `maxResults` so an AI agent can budget a call.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Use this when you already have a realestate.com.au or realestate.co.nz search/listing URL. Example: https://www.realestate.com.au/buy/in-sydney/list-1. URLs are scraped as public pages; use searchQueries for keyword discovery.

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

Use this when you want the Actor to build a public property search URL from a place or suburb keyword. Example: Sydney NSW or Auckland. These are not arbitrary Google queries; they target residential listing searches.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Use this to choose the keyword-search website. Use au for realestate.com.au or nz for realestate.co.nz. Defaults to au; explicit URLs are detected by domain.

## `listingType` (type: `string`):

Use this to select the intent for keyword-generated URLs. sale returns properties for sale; rent returns rental searches; sold is accepted where the website supports it.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Use this to cap billable dataset rows across all sources. Must be 1–1000; defaults to 25. This is not a page count.

## `maxPagesPerSource` (type: `integer`):

Use this to control pagination for each search URL. Defaults to 3 and is capped at 50. Detail URLs do not paginate.

## `responseFormat` (type: `string`):

Use concise for smaller agent-friendly rows or detailed for longer descriptions and more images. Defaults to detailed.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "searchQueries": [],
  "country": "au",
  "listingType": "sale",
  "maxResults": 25,
  "maxPagesPerSource": 3,
  "responseFormat": "detailed"
}
```

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("muhammadafzal/realestate-au-nz-search").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
