## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

### Leagues

| Sport | Leagues |
|---|---|
| 🏀 Basketball | `nba`, `wnba`, `ncaab` |
| 🏈 Football | `nfl`, `ncaaf` |
| ⚾ Baseball | `mlb` |
| 🏒 Hockey | `nhl` |
| ⚽ Soccer | `epl`, `laliga`, `seriea`, `bundesliga`, `ligue1`, `ucl`, `mls` |
| 🏏 Cricket | `ipl`, `bbl` *(scoreboard & standings only)* |
| 🏉 Rugby / AFL | `sixnations`, `nrl`, `afl` |
| 🏎️ Motorsport | `f1` *(races + driver championship + constructors; no roster)* |

### Modes

| Mode | What you get |
|---|---|
| **scoreboard** | Games for today (or a date): teams, live/final scores, status, records, venue. |
| **standings** | League/conference standings: wins, losses, win %, points, rank/seed. |
| **teams** | Every team in the league (name, abbreviation, colors, logo, venue). |
| **roster** | Players on a team (position, jersey, age, height, college/nationality). |

Every row is tagged with its `league`, so multi-league runs stay organized.

### Examples

**Today's NBA + NFL games**

```json
{ "leagues": ["nba", "nfl"], "mode": "scoreboard" }
```

**Premier League standings**

```json
{ "leagues": ["epl"], "mode": "standings" }
```

**IPL matches on a date**

```json
{ "leagues": ["ipl"], "mode": "scoreboard", "date": "2026-04-15" }
```

**F1 driver championship**

```json
{ "leagues": ["f1"], "mode": "standings" }
```

**A team's roster**

```json
{ "leagues": ["nfl"], "mode": "roster", "team": "KC" }
```

### Notes

- **No API key, no proxy.** Uses ESPN's public JSON endpoints.
- **`team`** accepts an abbreviation (`LAL`, `KC`, `ARS`…) or a numeric ESPN team id.
- **`date`** is `YYYY-MM-DD`; blank = today. Pass an in-season date for leagues not playing today.
- **Cricket (IPL/BBL)** supports **scoreboard and standings** only — ESPN has no teams/roster endpoint for cricket; those modes are skipped for it.
- **F1** supports **scoreboard** (races + winner), **standings** (driver championship) and **teams** (constructors) — no roster.
- **AFL** supports scoreboard, teams and rosters; ESPN does not expose an AFL ladder, so **standings returns nothing** for it.
- Data belongs to ESPN / the leagues; use responsibly.
