You Don’t Need More Gratitude In Your Life
How gratitude can warp one’s thinking and make life worse.
“Remember when you wanted what you currently have.”
Those words flashed upon my screen. And like so many of these kinds of ‘gratitude’ images and phrases, I felt conflicted.
I never wanted to be fat. For most of my life, I’ve wanted to be healthy and skinny.
I never wanted to be broke. At the time of writing this, I want my own apartment and a stable job that can allow me to write, play video games, and socialize.
I never wanted to be single at this stage in my life. I would rather be thinking about having kids and having a loving partner right about now.
But at the same time, there are certain things in my life that I did want and I currently have.
I’ve dedicated my life to self-help, and the topic still fascinates me greatly, as there is so much to talk about. Building a career, albeit a small one, out of this has been something I’m grateful for.
When I became socially isolated, I wanted to tap back into my childlike awe and wonder and meet new people, and my life has been gradually going in that direction.
