Aren’t Me Among Insecure Parents???
“I Didn’t Want to Raise Children Who Could Make Everyone Laugh but Had Nothing to Dream About”
[A personal reflection on parenting, meaningful conversations, ambition, and the fear of watching childhood slip away into endless jokes and wasted hours]
“Mama, why are you always telling us to do something useful? Can’t we just sit and enjoy?”
My child asked this casually one evening. I was busy with my own work, but that question made me stop for a moment.
I looked at my children. They were laughing, making funny faces, teasing each other, and turning every ordinary conversation into a comedy show.
For a while, I smiled too.
What could be more beautiful than hearing your children laugh?
But somewhere inside me, another question appeared.
Will they always have something meaningful to say when the laughter ends?
That was the beginning of a challenge I had never expected parenting to bring into my life.
I have never wanted my children to grow up as serious, silent people who cannot enjoy a joke. I love their laughter. I love their silly stories and the innocent way they can turn a boring afternoon…
