Java 27 Top Five Features
Java 27 is here, and it’s more about what happens under the hood than new syntax.
Released on September 15, 2026, here are the top 5 features worth knowing:
𝟏. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: Enabled by default, object headers shrink from 96 bits to 64 bits on supported 64-bit JVMs. This can reduce memory overhead for object-heavy workloads, which helps microservices and containerized apps.
𝟐. 𝗚𝟭 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿: G1 is now the default everywhere, including environments where the JVM previously selected Serial GC. You get more consistent behavior without extra tuning.
𝟑. 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗟𝗦 𝟭.𝟯: Hybrid key exchange combines traditional and quantum-resistant techniques, and supported TLS applications benefit without code changes in the default configuration.

𝟒. 𝗝𝗙𝗥 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Helps protect sensitive information captured in Java Flight Recorder recordings.
𝟓. 𝗣𝗘𝗠 𝗘𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗔𝗣𝗜: Simplifies working with PEM-encoded cryptographic objects through Java APIs.

Java 27 brings better runtime defaults, lower memory use, and stronger security.
