In February 2026 I graduated with honours from the Addictions and Community Support program as a virtual student. As I was on my way out, I happened to notice the Cybersecurity Specialists course offering and it caught my eye.
There are a few problems with my chosen course: I’m 67, and try as I might, I’ve never been able to learn any of the languages, and believe me, I’ve tried. My time of ‘fake it until you can make it’ is coming to an end. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have pulled TripSit and Soberbot from here for Discord where I built servers where I use JSON through Discohook Utils to create embeds, so I do have some small (minuscule) experience in a few different things, and was self taught on the servers.

CDI College uses CompTIA for the training and I really want to do well. They use mostly Linux, Powershell, YAML, and a few others.

Here’s the other thing. I was always open and honest about my inability with code to the instructor and with the people in the admissions and each one told me not to worry as coding was not something I would be required to do? Are they allowed to just lie to me like that?

I'm not seeing much of a job at 67 especially as a new career. I'm not even looking. I've tried several times over the years to learn it just for the sake of learning it and I liked to work with computers. I tried different courses and different instructors to see if it was me who had the code block in my head. I believe that it was me. Now I'm taking this course and learning about virtual machines, and omg, how fantastic.
I started working with computers in 1985 as a data entry clerk, and here I am 40 years later seeing the future with my own eyes!!! It's is quite a revelation. In my high school we didn't have desktop computers, we had something in the basement about half the size of an ENIAC that we got to go visit once a month or so.
My grandkids can code. I _Really want to _learn! I remember when Moon Bear was looking for folks to help on the server working on their project and I was asked to participate too. It was embarrassing to have to admit, that the last person on the planet he wanted anywhere near that piece of work was me.
So, I guess this is my last rodeo. Last opportunity to learn and I really want to put my all into it. I don't have money, in fact I'm over my head in student loan debt. I don't know what else to do.
In class I have to sit here almost 24 hours a day just to keep up with the other 'younger' students. But I do it. If I can't finesse it, I'll bull my way through. I'm finally just beginning to catch up, but there are previous incomplete sessions that I'm using my spare time to go back to and finish as well. I don't care if it ever gets graded, I just want to be able to say I didn't give up.
At the moment, no, I don't love code, it's the bane of my existance but, I do want to learn to love it. I want it to be something I do with fun.

And too, I hosted a server on Discord for youth who had fallen into situations and/or addictions so they'd have someone to just come and talk to if they needed and had no one in their life to do so. When we got raided I had over three hundred members across the globe. About half of those members were teens. The people who raided us left infant porn all over the server and in order to protect my teen members I mass banned everyone.
I then Joined the servers belonging to the guys who raided us under a different name and took screenshots of everything. I first turned it over to Arachnid who put me in touch with the RCMP and then I gave Discord the same files. No response from them. I don't want assholes like that to be able to do such things. To me it's wrong.

As it gets closer, I'm really looking forward to it. I want to learn Linux, and likely Git. I'll see. I want to learn it just because I can, and I've wanted to for a long time. Thank you for the question.
