Hi everyone,

Tell me why an AP CSA teacher (31 years) with 50 students from schools across the country last year would be rejected. Yes, The Arrupe Virtual Learning Institute( AVLI) serves thousands of students and is not a degree granting institution, but the participating schools give credit as does Creighton University. We are not a "bootcamp" or informal school--we've been around for decades in the virtual learning space. Are the rules too rigid to deal with online learning providers because it seems to me that this is exactly the sort of space GitHub Classroom would serve well.

Here I am, ready for my second application to be approved. Little ole me and my band of students interested in exploring Classroom 50.

I can understand your frustration. From what you've described, this doesn't sound like someone trying to misuse GitHub Classroom. Thirty-one years of teaching AP CSA and working with accredited schools should at least warrant a manual review rather than a generic rejection.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend opening a support ticket and asking for your application to be reviewed by a person. Hopefully GitHub can clarify whether it's an eligibility issue or simply a verification problem.

Based on what you've described, this sounds less like a question of Classroom eligibility and more like an institution verification issue. GitHub Classroom is available to a range of educational institutions, but the verification process may not always fit non-traditional or virtual providers.

I'd recommend appealing the decision through GitHub Support and including details about your institution's accreditation, partner schools, and how students receive academic credit. That gives the education team the context they need to perform a manual review and explain the specific reason for the rejection.

Thank you. I've mostly given up on exploring Classroom 50 with a GitHub Education account after contacting GitHub Support and receiving an obvi copy and paste response to close the issue. It seemed like a possible option for my students this upcoming fall. Beginning students struggle with coding, and due the virtual nature of the course, I wanted an affordable, shared space in which we could work together. It's called accompaniment and cura personalis in my world. Unfortunately, I have not found it here, but there are other options, take heart!

I can understand why this is frustrating, especially given your experience and the number of students you teach. From what I've seen, GitHub Education reviews applications based on their eligibility criteria rather than teaching experience alone.

If your institution isn't recognized under the current requirements, that may explain the rejection even if it's a well-established educational program. I'd recommend waiting for feedback on your second application and, if needed, contacting GitHub Education Support with additional documentation explaining how your students receive academic credit.

Turd try. Okay, so now they recognize arrupevirtual.org under its old domain name, jesuit virtual learning academy, (likely not updated) AND I attempt to upload a letter from my supervisor verifying my employment. All the details, clear as day! Then it asks why am I so far from campus? Duh. Third try application rejected before it is even submitted. Painful to learn this about the platform.
