Hi everyone,

Hello,
my GitHub Education student application is being automatically rejected within minutes.

The rejection says that my first and last name do not match my GitHub billing information and profile, and that my document does not contain a current date.

However:

• my full legal name is identical in my GitHub profile, billing information and official enrollment document;
• my academic email is added and verified;
• the document is an official enrollment certificate for a degree-granting program;
• the document includes the current academic year and a recent issue date;
• I have tried submitting clear photos from both desktop and mobile.

The support page says that individual manual reviews are no longer available. What exact document format or submission method should I use so the automated verification can correctly recognize my name and current enrollment date?

For privacy reasons, I am not attaching my academic document publicly.

I was stuck in the exact same loop yesterday and managed to figure it out. Even if you think your name is identical, GitHub's automated parser is extremely sensitive to formatting, initials, and name spaces.

Here is how to fix this:

1. Double-Check Spaces & Initials: Go to your Public Profile and Billing Information. Ensure that any spaces or middle initials match your document exactly. If your document has initials separated by spaces, your GitHub billing name must contain those exact spaces.
2. Use Incognito Mode: The automated system often caches old profile data. Open a new private/incognito window on your mobile phone, log in to GitHub, and try applying from there. This forces the system to pull your newly updated name.
3. Clear Camera Focus: Make sure the live camera focus is very sharp on the text of your name, the school name, and the current date.

Log out, log back in via an incognito tab, and re-apply. It should bypass the instant rejection. Good luck!

i understand why you not sending the documents publicly cause it will be stupid cause maybe just maybe someone will stole the documents and get applied to github education

If your application is being rejected within a few minutes, it's likely that the automated verification system isn't able to confidently read one or more required details, even if they're actually present.

Here are a few things I'd check before submitting again:

• Make sure your first and last name in GitHub Billing Information exactly match your official document, including capitalization, accents, hyphens, initials, and spacing.

• Use the live camera capture during the application instead of uploading a saved image, and make sure the document is well-lit, sharp, and fully visible.

• Verify that the document clearly shows:

  • Your full name.
  • Your institution's full name (not just the logo).
  • A current academic date (such as the current academic year, enrollment period, or issue date) that the system can easily read.

• Avoid reflections, shadows, or low contrast, as these can make text difficult for the verification system to recognize.

Since you're understandably not sharing your document publicly, the community can't verify whether the required information is visible enough for the automated system.

If you've already checked all of the above and the application is still rejected almost immediately, there may not be anything further you can change yourself. At that point, I'd recommend waiting for a GitHub Education staff member or community moderator to review your discussion, as they can provide guidance specific to your case.
