Are we connected or distracted by technology ?
While you feel connected to the channels & media around the globe, you might be distracted from your present.
If you have been following my blogs, you must have come across the article on Neurodivergence which I wrote a few months ago. The article had briefly explained on what is neurodivergence and the importance of having a healthy ambience for the neurodivergent. If you haven't given it a read , then here is the link to my previous article.
In the fast-paced world we live-in with different perspectives making and breaking rules, the survival may look bit hard for many perfectionists, enthusiasts and activists. Such situations may also demand the need of mental health expert’s intervention. If you are one of such people with too much to do in life then it is alright to feel that way, it may not necessarily mean you are a neurodivergent. You might be just too preoccupied or it could be your unfamiliar circumstances vs your usual approach to situations just not placed well.
Such experiences are quite common in people with diverse life patterns in a short span, this may include almost everyone of us making big leaps in our personal and professional lives. It can include your switches from high school to undergrad school or even first job to a new job too. These are some circumstances that may make you want to stay in touch with your familiar patterns before you get used to the new one. Sometimes it may lower your motivation in course of time trying to adjust with the new pattern.
Losing motivation could make even the easiest tasks to feel like a quantum physics problem. There is no medicine for the lost motivation, other than coping up with your situation.
The good news is that it will always get better if you know how to cope ! :)
While, the distance from your family and best buds could be one of the reasons for your temporary cause for diversions which otherwise can be seen as only your response to the separation. This response might rise the need for staying in touch with your devices which may be the only portal to stay in touch with your old buds. While digitalization has taken us over and has become an integral part of our everyday life, such cope up mechanism may not be healthy or even realistic it can be tiring sometimes, hence trying to normalize a life over a call with you family or best buds might not be advisable for a healthy future.
Digital Autism is one such problem associated with children exposed to overly exceeding screen time, while this term hasn’t been recognized for adults by medical practitioners. It has been studied children tend to have divergence from normal social interactions and everyday activities because of exceeding screentime which may indicate few symptoms of autism during their critical growth period. However medical experts aren’t sure of such a thing for an adult with a well-developed brain structure, I have come across many people brought up in a gregarious environment being affected by separation and distance from their family causing the need for extra screen time.

If you are someone away from your family and buds for the first time and missing them, here are some reasons and tips to help you cope such situations out of my personal experiences.
Reason#1. Being new in a different country might cause “Culture Shock” to some, you may want to stay in touch with familiar behaviours and people who may keep you close to your phone.
Tip; Keep a timer to spend time with your loved ones over a call and maintain a schedule to keep in touch with only people who matters to you. Setting boundaries for screen time and cultivating digital-free spaces in daily life can help you to not over indulge in your devices.
Reason#2. Loneliness can be a true killer for your motivation. This may make you spend more time on your social media accounts to make yourself feel belonged in community.
Tip; Participate in in-person communal events similar to the ones you follow on the internet and find more people from your community to keep your self-engaged. Emphasizing human connections can help you not only beat the boredom but also help you to stay away from your devices.
Reason#3. Making friends with everyone might be a challenge, especially if you haven’t been exposed to a multicultural environment or if you come across a culture which was nowhere part of your upbringing. This might get even more hard if you aren’t an outgoing person.
Tip; Make friends and keep in touch with like minded people. Remind yourself not to try becoming someone else who might be the star in your circle. Moving to a new city or country doesn’t mean you have earned yourself a badge for becoming an influencer. Be yourself and keep your circle simple
Well, that being said on my Medium webpage while I’m off work. I’m up to take a break now to read a few notifications on my phone. Maybe, once after that I might go speak to the one — on his phone in the next room.
I’m just kidding!
Just remember to take a time off from your devices for sometime and encourage more in-person social interactions for your wellbeing.
