If You Sound Like Everyone Else, You Are Replaceable
Standard Orange, Vol. 01, Iss. №1 + №2: A Manifesto and Charge
For the last decade, the dominant narrative in branding, marketing, and leadership has been one of acceleration. Move faster. Ship more. Publish daily. Optimize. Measure. Repeat ad infinitum. The logic is simple enough: in an environment saturated with information, the winners will be the ones who produce the most of it. The best ability is availability.
The predictable result: an unprecedented volume of content, strategy decks, frameworks, and point-of-view statements wash freely across platforms — competently made, yet indistinguishable from everything else. Tools have improved. Output’s mushroomed. Clarity’s backslid.
The market doesn’t lack for talent. There has never been a moment when so many smart, capable, culturally fluent professionals were thinking so hard about their work, and producing so much of it. The problem is that intelligence is increasingly expressed through a narrow band of shared language. Corporate polish and ingroup signaling replaced conviction. Templates are convenience paths for taste. Snowclone phrasing serves as a placeholder for actual belief. When everything sounds the same, nothing carries weight.
