the thing about AI oil changes…

2 min readJul 27, 2026

what would happen if we started teaching auto experts to rely on a external system to do some “simple” jobs for them?

for example, lets take oil changes.

but what if that technology didn’t always work and you didn’t know when? what if it put water instead of oil into the engine? what if sometimes everything looked alright, but it was missing one single important thing?

would the the auto experts use this technology, knowing all of its flaws beforehand? or would they blindly trust it to do it right, and go as far as to STOP learning how to correctly change oil at all?

as bad as this sounds, this is the exact thing that is happening with artificial intelligence and software developers.

now, don’t automatically put me into the “they hate AI” camp. i have personally seen the power AI has.

but i don’t like blindly trusting anything at all, and i certainly wouldn’t stop exercising a certain skill because something else can do it better than me.

we are seeing a crisis of less and less junior software developers, and if we don’t have juniors, then we don’t have middles. if we don’t have middles, we will never have seniors. it is as easy as that!

AI has changed the perception of people towards coding, making it seem like a simple job to do.

the problem is that coding isn’t one task. it is many bunched up together, packaged in a large box full of stuff, taped up with ten rolls of duck tape, sent to the wrong destination (thrice), and finally arrives (crooked and broken) to the actual receiver's address with the help of a 15 year old limping Stack Overflow comment.

and maybe writing code will be fully taken over by autonomous systems, who knows.

but it CERTAINLY hasn’t happened yet.

and hyping everyone up and saying “coding is largely solved” seems a bit too much for me.

so the moral: continue learning, continue striving, and don’t let a piece of numbers get you down. you are NOT being left behind.
