This is one of the big problems I have with Asprey. He promotes himself as a longevity guru, but there's very little data showing that any of his biohackery actually results in greater longevity.

I read one of his books a couple of years ago. In addition to the lack of data showing that his recommendations actually have beneficial health outcomes, it's amazing how many times he recommends a particular product or service, then drops in a parenthetical or footnote vaguely acknowledging that he has a financial interest in the company selling it.

Yet, every once in a while there is a nugget that does seem to make sense. Around the time I read his book, I was feeling pretty awful after replacing most of the red meat in my diet with chicken. His book was the first time I had encountered the proposition that chicken, while lean, is also inflammatory because it has an abundance of Omega-6 fatty acids. His book was also the first time I had seen a thorough discussion of just how necessary cholesterol is to cellular health.

In the end, I see Asprey in the same way I see Tim Ferriss. There are these powerful hidden gems lurking in their books, but you have to wade through reams of hyperbole and hucksterism to find them.
