Raging autodidact and introvert with no social media presence

1 min readAug 25, 2026

Oh the memories! Fellow Australian here, started in 1988. I too remember coming home from work with hundreds of black ink lines on the back of my left hand where I’d wipe the rotring pen to clean it. Burning myself on the hot wax and making four of everything when we wanted to print full colour. I learned to cut rubylith like some Tetris master to make the most of it. I still have a scar from nearly cutting the top off my finger with a scalpel while cutting out a hand drawn illustration to paste. And the hundreds of lettraset sheets with no e’s left. Then moving to the first Mac and using pagemaker and freehand and thinking it was normal to have to swap disks every time we wanted to use a new command. That tiny black and white screen!!! When everything was hand done, so were all our ideas. Pages and pages of concepting a logo or a cover design. I had them all bound decades ago. I can pinpoint when I found the right path and refined the design and usually have a printed copy of the final stored away. Goodness knows what I’ll do with it all when I finally embrace Swedish death cleaning. Thankyou for writing this, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one still going 👍🏻
