In a world where streaming service prices are on the rise, Tablo DVR is here to save the day. Grant Hall, the founder and CEO of Nuvyyo, Tablo’s parent company, acknowledges that Tablo has always been a niche product. However, the tides are turning as more cord-cutters grow frustrated with escalating streaming costs, leading to a resurgence of OTA (over-the-air) DVRs and TV antennas. Notably, the Consumer Technology Association reports that a staggering 36 million U.S. households own an antenna. Moreover, Tablo’s recent acquisition by The E.W. Scripps Company has set the stage for a major comeback.

The latest offering from Tablo is the 4th-generation Tablo OTA DVR, and it’s turning heads for several reasons. Priced at just $100, this DVR boasts more than 50 hours of onboard recording storage and is equipped with two ATSC 1.0 tuners that deliver high-quality MPEG2 video. But what truly sets it apart is the new app that simplifies streaming access to over 70 FAST and live channels. These channels include popular networks like ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, the CW, ION Plus, Tastemade, and Bloomberg Television, among others.

Until now, Tablo was primarily known for its OTA capabilities. However, this latest version brings something new to the table: access to FAST channels and over-the-top content. This expansion is likely to appeal to both loyal Tablo users and newcomers. According to Samba TV, a whopping one in three U.S. users are subscribed to FAST services.

One of the standout features of the Tablo DVR is its ability to record FAST programming. This means you can finally bid farewell to commercials as you fast-forward and skip through them. As far as we know, this level of control over commercials in the FAST space is a game-changer.

In a recent conversation with us, Tablo’s spokesperson, Hall, declared, “I don’t think there’s anything that really compares to us in the market right now.” This bold statement unveils the game-changing features of the 4th-generation Tablo, making it a revolutionary product. The ability to record and playback FAST channels marks a significant shift from the traditional linear TV experience. Now, users can time-shift, pause live TV, and enjoy the freedom that was previously limited to cable DVRs.

What sets this Tablo apart is not just its cutting-edge functionality but also its affordability. Unlike its predecessors, the 4th-generation Tablo doesn’t burden users with a subscription fee, making it an attractive choice for budget-conscious consumers. The most recent Tablo QUAD, priced at $199, demanded a $5 monthly subscription. This move positions the new Tablo DVR as the most cost-effective device ever released by Nuvyyo.

It’s essential to note that Tablo is tailored for streaming and recording broadcast TV from antennas. However, it doesn’t support cable or satellite channels like ESPN or HGTV, nor does it integrate with streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, YouTube TV, or Sling.

To sweeten the deal, Tablo introduces the “Tablo Total System,” a $130 bundle that includes a 35-mile indoor TV antenna and coaxial cable. For existing antenna owners, compatibility isn’t an issue as Tablo supports antennas from various manufacturers like Antennas Direct, Antop, Winegard, and Mohu.

The setup process for the Tablo is refreshingly quick and straightforward. Connect your antenna to the device, establish a connection via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and download the Tablo TV app on your mobile device. The app guides users on optimal antenna placement for the best reception and channel availability, suggesting high locations like windows or drywalls for improved signal quality. Notably, concrete or metal walls are discouraged for antenna placement by the company.

For the tech enthusiasts eager to try out the Tablo, the device is compatible with iOS, Roku, Fire TV, Android TV/Google TV, and Android devices. Support for Apple TV, Samsung, LG, and Vizio TVs is in the pipeline.

Are you tired of the same old DVR experience? Tablo brings a game-changer with its 4th-generation DVR, and we’ve got the inside scoop in simple terms for you: The Tablo TV app is getting a facelift, but it’s separate from the old Legacy Tablo app. If you’re an existing user, the new app is coming your way soon. But hey, it’s not a must-switch situation. We recommend holding onto the old one if you love watching on the go, as the new app won’t stream content when you’re away from home.

Still hanging onto your old app? You’ll keep paying for your subscription, which gets you guide data and advanced DVR features. If you’re into automatic commercial skipping, stick with the old app for now, as the new one doesn’t offer this feature.

Imagine your DVR getting a makeover! The 4th-gen Tablo sports a rounder, sleeker look. It’s not just eye candy — it’s also less bulky, perfect for mounting on your wall or sitting neatly on a table.

Under the hood, there’s a quad-core ARM processor, making it energy efficient. No need to buy an extra antenna amplifier; it’s built-in! If you own an external one or live close to towers, you can disable it. And storage? The Tablo comes with 128GB onboard, but feel free to plug in a USB hard drive for up to 8TB more.

Tablo currently supports ATSC 1.0, the more budget-friendly option, although ATSC 3.0 is on the horizon. Next year, an ATSC 3.0 tuner is planned. Nuvyyo is also cooking up a four-tuner version and expanding its FAST channel library.

Exciting news from Hall, the brains behind Tablo: Expect the entire product line to keep evolving with the latest tech. Continuous development is the name of the game.

Ready to upgrade your DVR experience? The 4th-gen Tablo is up for grabs on Tablo’s website, Best Buy, and Amazon.

In a nutshell, Tablo’s new DVR isn’t just a recording device; it’s a glimpse into the future of home entertainment. Stay tuned for more updates and enhancements coming your way!
