GPT-6 Astra Just Edited Another AI’s Brain. MIT Calls It “Weight-Space Programming.”
MIT CSAIL researchers showed that OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra can read and rewrite the internal numerical weights of smaller neural networks. It fixed a broken math model by changing just 0.016% of its brain — boosting its score from 7.9% to 48.1% without any traditional training. But is this a leap toward self-improving AI, or just clever Python scripting dressed up as a breakthrough?
On November 2, researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) published a paper that sounds like science fiction.
They claim that frontier models like OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra can read the raw numerical weights of other neural networks, diagnose their flaws, and directly edit them. They call it Weight-Space Programming.
If true, it means one AI can reach into the “brain” of another AI and rewrite its code without a single…
