I have never felt an end of a phase as badly as I feel this one. And no, secondary school is not in any way similar.
Something about walking down the end of an era makes you reminisce.
And you can easily relate to the end of those who are lucky to age or see their deaths coming before it happens.

Final Year demands results from you. Results of what you have learned, what you have received and what you have committed to.
It’s now your turn to lead and give back. You are at the apex now. You are responsible for the juniors who need guidance. Now, pour out the wisdom you received.

Final Year comes with a lot of retrospection.
You begin to realize all the things you have missed out on since you were a fresher.
The events you did not attend. The clubs you did not join. The fellowship programs you did not attend. The friendships you did not make. The experiences you missed out on.

It also comes with the sweet memories of how you have become who are now. The relationships you have built, the ones you let go of.
The choices you made and the opportunity costs.

The all-nighters pulled, the nights of sacrifice, the days of being broke.

It’s beautiful to look back on the journey and see how everyone has grown and changed. Skinny Biola is now filling out flesh. Dotun now has muscles and a goatee. Dare has a car. Victor runs a business. Bayo is the SU Politician.

We are no kids anymore.

Final Year, perhaps, is the year we realize we have a second chance. To try everything we missed out on. To maximize the little time so we can leave without regrets. To push back and push hard.

It’s easy to feel like you want to graduate so bad. Can this phase just end already?

But I recommend living it out slowly. Enjoy the last days, the seniors have said. Outside is not smiling.

Oh, and by the way, if you had spent the years cramming to download in your exams, Final Year is the year that demands you show results for what you have studied.

Try to relish the last moments with your class. It might be the last time all of you will be gathered in one place. Strengthen the relationships that matter to you.
Be intentional about EVERYTHING.
Make memories. Take pictures. Time has taught me that you will need evidence. Make them now.
Finish in grand style. Finish it strong.

Take your time. I’m rooting for you.
