Maybe We’re Making Self-Improvement Harder Than It Needs to Be
I sometimes wonder why we make so many plans to change our lives, yet struggle to follow even a few of them.
We decide that tomorrow will be different. We will wake up earlier, spend less time on our phones, learn something useful, and finally become more disciplined. We imagine how much better life could be if we managed our time properly.
Then the next day arrives, and life continues as usual.
Work needs our attention. Someone needs our help. We return home tired and tell ourselves we will start properly on Monday.
I have seen how easily this cycle repeats. The strange thing is that we often blame ourselves for it without asking whether we are expecting too much from ourselves in the first place.
Maybe improving our lives doesn’t require as many changes as we think.
We Cannot Change Everything Overnight
Whenever we feel unhappy with our progress, we tend to make bigger plans.
If we aren’t earning enough, we want to learn several new skills. If we feel unhealthy, we promise to follow a strict routine. If we think we waste too much time, we try to organize every hour of the day.
