POEMS (Episode 38) — when a snail hops
Five Poems on Small Creatures and Impossible Moves
💎 What happens when a snail hops like a rabbit and an ox barks at the moon? Listen to two hosts follow the sounds and surprises in these five poems.💎
A snail that hops like a rabbit is asked to sit and listen. By the last poem, the butterflies are looking for somewhere to sit, too. Between those two pauses, a teddy bear hides the thought of flying on a beetle, a tomcat’s whiskers leap over the crescent, and a white ox barks at the moon.
Sleep and honey
Snail, why are you hopping like a rabbit
⠀on my green branches?
⠀⠀⠀Better sit and listen with me
creaking stories
⠀⠀⠀of the sages with many rings,
⠀about burrows, hives and ripe fruit
that lure angels clothed in down and pollen
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ to fall from the hum.
The beetle
Dense forest the mind
in which the teddy bear
hides the intense idea
of the flight on a beetle.
