Dental Hygiene Tips Most People Don’t Know
The first thing most people don’t know is how often they should floss. Technically you only need to floss once each day.
However, you must be sure that you’re using proper technique. It’s important to use the cleaning motion as opposed to the sawing motion when flossing between teeth. Many people do this wrong, so a helpful tip is to always make sure that you’re wrapping the floss around each tooth and guiding the string up and down to clean the sides of each tooth.
You don’t want to just pop it in and out; you really want to think about removing debris from the sides of the teeth.
Why do all the movies and TV shows show people flossing incorrectly?? I don’t know what drives me bonkers; they use the sawing motion instead of the cleaning motion, but now we all know that they are wrong.
Speaking of floss, most people don’t know that not everyone has to floss; there are alternative options for cleaning between your teeth. So if string floss is very difficult for you, talk with your dental hygienist about flossing alternatives for your mouth. Many people benefit from water flossers. Inter Dental brushes or even floss piics As long as you’re cleaning between your teeth with something and using proper technique with that something, then you are reducing your chances of cavities and gum disease, but always talk with your personal dental provider to decide which cleaning between your teeth method is best for your individual mouth.
Another thing that most people don’t know is how often they should brush their teeth, so it’s important to brush teeth at least twice each day, once in the morning and once at night. For the morning, you should brush immediately after waking up. If you want to brush again after breakfast, that’s fine, but try to wait about 30 minutes before you brush after eating. Just remember that it’s more important to brush right when you wake up. For the evening, it’s important to brush before bed. I always recommend flossing before bed as well since it is the most optimal time to floss, but if flossing in the morning works better for you, that’s fine as long as you’re flossing at least once each day and brushing at least twice each day.

How to remove plaque?
Plaque is removed at home simply when using proper brushing and flossing techniques; that’s all you need. Tartar, on the other hand, cannot be safely removed at home. That’s why you visit the dentist routinely for cleanings so they can properly remove the tartar, which is hardened mineralised plaque, from the spots. You may have missed it at home. Some people build up faster than others, so again, it’s important to always discuss individual home care recommendations with your personal dental hygienist.
How to avoid cavities??
Never go to sleep without brushing and flossing; literally, skipping one night can set you up for failure in the cavity department. Also, be sure to drink water after every meal, snack, and beverage. You can consume throughout the day to lower the contact time the food or drink has on your teeth. chew xyle gum and/or suck on xylitol mints after eating; this can also help neutralise the pH in your mouth.
And of course, visit your dentist regularly and get routine dental X-rays.
The sixth thing most people don’t know is what foods to avoid.
And when snacking is the absolute worst for dental health, it’s actually healthier for us to eat all of our snacks at once, like a designated snack break, versus snacking and munching on food throughout the day. You don’t want sugars or fermentable carbohydrates specifically to sit on your teeth for a prolonged period of time because the frequency with which food sits on your teeth significantly increases your chance of tooth decay and plaque buildup. Also, it’s good to know that fermentable carbohydrates like bread crackers, etc. are actually worse for your teeth than most candies.
The actual signs and symptoms of dental problems here are that often times dental problems will not be noticed until they are at a very severe stage. For example, small cavities do not hurt, and when you fix them when they are small, You are preventing any future dental issues such as abscesses and infections. The same thing with gum disease: when you catch it at its earliest stage, there is still a chance to reverse it; however, if it has progressed too far, there is no way to cure it but only to maintain what you have. The best way to prevent dental problems is to visit your dentist office routinely for exams and cleanings because, again, once you start having problems, they are usually at a more advanced stage. Small dental issues don’t cause problems, but we can detect them before they cause you problems.
