PCEI: Should this be your first AI cert?
Have you too heard of this new thing called “AI”? 😨
OKAY, it’s not really new. I won’t waste too much time on that particular frustration.. I’ve done plenty of that here if you want; but the awesome team at OpenEDG Python Institute certainly understood the assignment when they set out to develop a comprehensive AI exam. So, before you read any farther, if what you’re looking for is an exam exclusively on GenerativeAI then NO, this is not the right cert.
PCEI (Certified Entry-Level AI Specialist with Python) is a beginner-friendly, AI & Data Science exam developed by the leading authority in Python. I’ve had the pleasure of sitting the exam very recently (31st March 2026) and wanted to share my thoughts. Here’s what I’ll cover:

Quick note before we jump in: I have my own biases. Everyone does. I’m using a mix of my knowledge as a data scientist, facts about the exam, knowledge about Python Institute exams styles & an aspirational sense of objectivity to help in your journey. It’s worth pointing I did zero prep for the exam, I recommend you do a bit more. 😛
