Between Two Darknesses

Close your eyes and fall inward. It’s dark in there. Trillions of cells working in silence, none of them asking who you are.

Now open them and look up, past the sky, past the last star you can name. It’s dark out there too.

And here you are. Between them.

This is the fifth song in Sākṣī (साक्षी), the witness. Every song in the set carries the Reality of Everything (ROE), the three-layer map at the centre of FractalSeer. Layer 3 is form. Layer 2 is vibration and law. Layer 1 is the stillness everything comes from.

If any song in the set is the ROE in one picture, it’s this one. It opens with a whisper before the music arrives:

When I fall inward, there is a darkness. When I look outward, there is a darkness. And here I am, between them.

Layer 3: the bright strip

Start with the light, because that’s where we live.

And in the light between them, this fleeting world appears.
A blaze of love and color, a breath of joy and tears.

Rain on glass. The smell of breakfast. A face you love inside a crowd of a thousand things you never said. This is where the heart remembers, this is where the senses meet. That’s Layer 3. Form. The one stretch of reality we can touch.

The Bhagavad Gita has a word for it. Vyakta (व्यक्त), from vi + añj, to make bright, to bring into view. The shining. The manifest.

Layer 2: thirty trillion cells keeping time

Underneath the bright strip, something is running the show. Your body is something like 30 trillion human cells. Each one is a small city with its own power plants and libraries. None of them knows your name.

Billions of cells, each one a world, none of them asking what I am.
Yet somehow all of them agree to make a morning, make a man.

That agreement is Layer 2. It’s what the old seers called ṛta (ऋत), the order built into things. Not a rule imposed from outside. A rhythm inside every scale.

And here’s what I find astonishing. The same rhythm runs the other way too. Look outward and it holds hundreds of billions of galaxies in their slow turning. The old texts put it in four words: yathā piṇḍe tathā brahmāṇḍe. As in the body, so in the cosmos. The pattern repeats at every scale. That’s the fractal heart of everything I write.

Layer 1: the hidden, at both ends

Now the darknesses themselves. The Gita’s chapter 2, verse 28, reads like it was written for this song:

avyaktādīni bhūtāni vyakta-madhyāni bhārata,
avyakta-nidhanāny eva tatra kā paridevanā.

Beings are unmanifest at the beginning, manifest in the middle, and unmanifest again at the end. So what is there to grieve?

Avyakta (अव्यक्त) is the not-yet-shining. The hidden. And the song says it almost word for word near the end, without my planning it:

From the hidden to the shining, to the hidden once again.

But the bridge goes one step further than grief. It asks whether there really are two darknesses:

Are they two, or just the edges of one thing beyond my side?

That’s the Layer 1 question. The darkness within and the darkness beyond may be one source seen from two sides. And the song adds the question that ties it to the whole set. Who is seeing all this wonder? Who is calling it by name?

How the video carries it

The artwork is the ROE drawn as one picture. Above, the outer cosmos: galaxies slowly turn and stars twinkle. Below, an inner cosmos of glowing cells and threads, with energy flowing out of a burning core and a beat running through it. That beat is Layer 2, made visible. Embers rise between the two.

In the middle, a thin line of dawn breathes with the bass. A person stands on it with one hand raised, and the light in that hand answers each beat.

That’s you, by the way. On the bright strip. Hand up. For now.
