I know the bend in the road
where the city finally disappears,
the tree leaning over the wall,
the tea stall with its blue door,
the cracked stone near the roadside
that has been waiting there
longer than some of my memories…

I have walked this road
on bright mornings,
on tired afternoons,
with too many thoughts
and nowhere to put them.

I know where the road narrows
between two old houses,
where goats wander across the asphalt
as if they have nowhere else to be..

I know the broken milestone
with half its numbers missing,
the patch of wild grass
that returns every summer,
the shop that opens late
and closes whenever it feels like it..
