The Law of Assumption.
If you are anywhere near the spiritual / tarot / manifestation side of the internet, then you will most likely have heard the term “Law of Assumption”. In simple terms, this law states that the more you believe your life is a certain way or act according to the life you want, the more likely your life is to shift according to that plan. I could go deeper into how I believe in it with my own experiences, but if you know me, you know why I won’t.
The Law of Assumption first came into my sights a few years ago when scrolling through my for-you page on TikTok. I had been on this side of the internet for a while, but was only just getting my hands dirty into what it all actually meant. My main ‘niche’ within the community was self-discovery and particularly manifestation — something I had been doing for years without knowing what it was called.
In the wise words of Ariana Grande (someone I highly recommend for songs with this kind of message), “Keep my conscience clear, that’s why I’m so magnetic / Manifest it, I finessed it”. These words are nothing but the truth if you choose to believe in the power of your own tongue. Words — just like the thoughts, which can influence your conscience and unconscious decisions — are more important than most people make them out to be. Every word you speak into the universe is one you cannot take back. It is out in the open, and it’s up to you to believe whether it is true or not.

If you do believe the words you speak to be true, your actions must align with that. The simplest example I can think of is from my own experience; If I want to feel more comfortable in my body, I must first change my mindset. Saying things that can help uplift spirits and brighten my self-image is a great starting point. Believing the words I’m saying is key. Next, I must back those words up with action. If you believed yourself to be the fastest runner at school, wouldn’t you enter a race to prove it to everyone? This kind of mindset is exactly that, just spoken about differently.
If you don’t believe the words you speak to be true, then you will always be doubting yourself. There will be no room for growth, and more likely than not you will be in a bad mood.
Something I am shameless enough to admit is a singular mistake I make on a quiz. I had gotten everything else right, but this one simple mistake had bothered me because I thought I had known better.
I was only so worked up about it because I had set expectations for myself and failed to meet them. There was no growth mindset in sight, only the degrading thoughts of punishment and disappointment in myself. I wanted to do better and knew I could, but used the wrong kind of execution when expressing my emotions.
Eventually, I realized it was just a small mistake in the grand scheme of things and I would learn from my mistakes. I embraced the fact that this same mistake could be made in the future and never discouraged myself over it again, but now had solid groundwork to remind myself of.
By changing the way you think about things, your entire world can change along with it. Maybe change is right for you, and maybe its not, but either way — it’s always worth a shot.
