IT DOESN’T GET ANY EASIER
fuck.
You know what pisses me off? The fact that you can go through something a hundred fucking times and it still hurts like the first.
You’d think there’d be some kind of discount by now. Some compensation for having experienced this shit before. Like, congratulations, you’ve suffered enough to qualify for a slightly less miserable experience next time. But no. Apparently, life doesn’t do loyalty points.
It just happens again.
And there you are, feeling the exact same fucking thing, wondering how something can be so familiar and still catch you off guard. You know this feeling. You recognize it immediately. You’ve memorized the weight of it, the way it settles in your chest, the way it makes everything feel just a little harder than it should be. And yet, recognition doesn’t make it hurt any less.
What the fuck is the point of being familiar with your own suffering if familiarity doesn’t make it any easier to bear?
People talk about growth as if pain is some kind of subscription service. The longer you stay subscribed, the more benefits you unlock. Resilience. Wisdom. Emotional maturity. Whatever the fuck else they’re selling.
But sometimes you’re just as miserable as you were three years ago, except now you’re articulate enough to explain why.
You understand yourself better. You know your patterns. You can identify what’s happening while it’s happening. You can practically narrate your own emotional deterioration in real time. And somehow, you’re still sitting there feeling like shit.
It’s almost funny. Almost.
Imagine spending years trying to understand yourself, only to discover that understanding yourself doesn’t grant you administrative privileges over your own fucking brain.
You know what’s happening. You know it won’t last forever. You know you’ve felt this way before and eventually came out the other side. And none of that fucking matters when you’re in it.
Because knowing that something will pass is not the same as wanting to experience it.
I know summer ends. That doesn’t mean I have to enjoy being hot.
And I’m so fucking tired of the expectation that everything has to mean something. That every time life knocks you on your ass, you’re supposed to get up with a new perspective and a little speech about what you’ve learned.
Sometimes there is no lesson. Sometimes you just had a terrible fucking time.
Sometimes you suffer, recover, and suffer again. And the second time isn’t more profound than the first. It isn’t character development. It isn’t the universe testing you. It’s just another miserable experience you have to sit through, except now you’re also pissed off because you thought you’d already dealt with this shit.
That’s the part nobody really talks about. The frustration of recognizing your own unhappiness. The sheer fucking audacity of a feeling you’ve already survived having the nerve to return as if you’ve never met before.
Like, excuse me? Do you know how much time we’ve spent together? Get the fuck out.
But feelings don’t give a shit. They don’t care how much you’ve grown, how much you’ve learned, or how many times you’ve promised yourself you’d never end up here again. They show up whenever they show up, and suddenly all your accumulated wisdom feels like a useless fucking certificate hanging on the wall.
And the circumstances don’t even have to be the same. That’s the really annoying part. Life changes the setting, changes the characters, changes the entire fucking plot, and somehow manages to recreate the same feeling.
Different day. Different problem. Same exhaustion.
You start wondering whether you’re actually going anywhere at all, or whether you’re just moving through different circumstances while carrying the same unresolved capacity to feel miserable.

And then you get angry at yourself for thinking that way, because apparently even suffering isn’t enough. You have to suffer correctly. You have to be self-aware about it. You have to maintain perspective. You have to remember that other people have it worse, that you’re fortunate in some ways, that this is temporary, that you shouldn’t let your emotions define you.
Jesus fucking Christ. Can I just have a bad time?
Can I feel awful without immediately putting myself on trial for it?
I’m tired of having to be reasonable about everything that hurts. Tired of having to understand it, contextualize it, rationalize it, and turn it into something I can live with. Sometimes I understand perfectly well why I feel the way I do. That doesn’t mean I like it. It doesn’t mean I’m suddenly equipped to handle it. It just means I know exactly why I’m miserable, which, frankly, can be worse.
At least ignorance gives you something to wonder about. Self-awareness gives you a front-row seat to the entire fucking disaster.
And I don’t want to hear that it gets easier with time. Maybe it does for some people. Maybe it doesn’t for others. But what am I supposed to do with the fact that, for me, right now, it doesn’t?
Am I supposed to keep waiting for the magical day when the things that hurt me finally stop hurting? Am I supposed to believe that if I just endure enough, eventually I’ll become so emotionally evolved that nothing can touch me anymore?
What a miserable fucking way to live. Treating every difficult feeling like another obstacle between you and some imaginary version of yourself who has finally figured everything out.
I don’t want to be invincible. I just want to stop being surprised by how much it hurts to be a person.
And maybe that’s an unreasonable thing to want. Maybe this is just what it means to be alive, to keep encountering things that make you feel small and helpless and exhausted, regardless of how many times you’ve encountered them before.
But fuck, knowing that doesn’t make it any less annoying.
It doesn’t make the feeling lighter. It doesn’t make the hours go faster. It doesn’t make you suddenly grateful for the experience.
It just means you’re sitting there, feeling like shit, fully aware that you’ve felt like shit before, with absolutely no guarantee that the next time will be any different.
And you know what?
It doesn’t get any easier.
Or maybe it does, sometimes. Maybe that’s not even the point anymore.
I’m just tired of pretending that repetition is supposed to make suffering feel like anything other than suffering.
Sometimes it comes back. Sometimes it hurts just as much. Sometimes all you can do is sit there and think, You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.
And that’s it.
No revelation. No silver lining. No triumphant realization that everything happens for a reason.
Just you, your stupid fucking feelings, and the passage of time.
You breathe because you’re breathing. You feel it because it’s there.
And you wait for it to pass.
Not because you’ve figured anything out.
Just because it’s here, and it fucking sucks.
