INFERTILITY BUSINESS IN A FERTILE LAND
Rafiq 34 and Kulsooma 35[names changes] come to me for counseling from a very far away place in Kashmir. As I start my interaction with them I was shocked to see that many psychiatrists have rightly diagnosed them with Major Depressive Disorder. I very politely take the case history of both of them and wonder how such a rich, educated, employed couple earning a hefty salary is suffering from severe depression. A look at both of them and any one will be mistaken they work in some brick factory. I am told that husband due to various ailments cannot become father. The couple has gone to all doctors to hakeem sahibs not in Kashmir but in places like Amritsar, Mumbai. Most of the doctors in Kashmir have given them the proper advise, what amuses me is that there are few quacks who wrongly call themselves hakeems and by the names of Bengali babas! This naïve couple visited these quacks and babas for 6 months, every time they were given some herbal medicine from Himalaya mountain range !Every visit costed them 800 Rs, finally when no result was achieved couple discontinued going there. If this was not enough this unlucky couple read advertisement regarding some doctors who are “experts” on infertility and come from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai on regular basis to Kashmir. There is always a beeline of naïve people seeking appointments and consultation .On meeting these experts one thing was common, they unanimously rejected any tests done not in private clinical laboratories of Kashmir but also tests, investigations done in prestigious hospitals like SMHS, or SKIMS. This couple was told that all investigations will be again done in Delhi and also assured that they have got some very good hotels nearby where they can stay as much as they like and as long as they pay! Now this all is not healing or treating someone like a dignified human being .I once read government of Jammu and Kashmir will take strict action against those private clinical laboratories who cheat people by saying blood samples will be sent outside Kashmir. WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT? How can quacks rent rooms in hotels and allure dejected patients by offering total cure for infertility, cancer? Don’t they come under law of “unfair practices”? People in Kashmir spend lakhs in the hope that there were will be some magical cure? This business in the name of medical treatment is also widespread in treating other diseases like joint pain, constipation, diabetes, asthma .In Kashmir in day broad light people go to various quacks who claim to treat Jaundice? Has any one bothered to investigate such quacks? The treatment by such quacks does not result only in heavy monetary loss but leads to severe secondary depression, life threatening complications in case of diabetes ,asthma , gall bladder and kidney stones .Lets for once we all as a society stand for the right cause and save lives of innocent patients. My advise as a younger brother to all such patients… The human being is psychosomatic by nature — what that means is that our health is deeply influenced by our behavior, thoughts, emotions and social relationships. Therefore, in order to experience good health, we should care for our life style, our mental, sentimental, emotional and relational world, as well as our communication. Fear and unrealistic magical cures is bad for our health. It manifests itself in the form of anger and promotes various diseases. Fear ,dejection suppressed for a long time ends up producing diseases . Apart from heart problems and depression there are other illnesses brought on by fear: addictions, anxiety, arthritis, asthma, irritability, nervous breakdowns, memory loss, gastritis, back pains, baldness, diarrhea, sciatica, crying attacks, alcoholism, constipation, hypertension, cystitis (bladder inflammation), vomiting, palpitations, digestive disorders, ulcers and migraines.

When we get old, our neurons do not die, but rather the connections between them disappear, that is what recent scientific research suggests. The neuronal connections or synapses keep us lively and young. When we have pleasant experiences, such as during meditation or when we are on a holiday or are surrounded by friends or while working in a team, some examples of activities in which we feel happy, the neuronal connections are more fluid. However, the lights go out when we feel fear. It is an emotion that is capable of slowing down and blocking the electrical impulses between the neurons. With fear we are less creative and we get older more quickly. If we do not want to suffer illnesses (or want our illnesses to get worse) we should learn to manage and overcome fear and accept good and bad events as part of our life, rather looking for unrealistic solution.
