OEM’s talk about SDV (Software Defined Vehicles) like it’s the magic wands of tech stacks with new architecture, on-board computing capabilities, OTA updates and cloud computing. If we’re being honest, that’s table stakes.

When software teams ship weekly but the long range plan moves in years, friction is (almost) guaranteed. Over time as success is measured in features launched instead of behaviors changed, SDV quietly becomes “connected services 2.0.”
The truth is, it’s not so much “let’s launch” but rather “let’s re-organize” around SDV. Teams, funding, KPIs, and ownership all need to move at software speed, or the investment never compounds.
In my experience, the teams that win won’t be the ones with the most code but the ones that changed how they operate first.
