Why I’m Starting Here: The Intersection of Grit, Gear, and the Open Road
Every endurance athlete knows the exact moment a gruelling climb turns from physical exertion into a quiet conversation with yourself. Whether you’re grinding up a steep mountain pass on a solo cycling expedition, pacing through the lonely hours of an ultra-marathon, or solving a complex thermodynamic equation in a lecture hall, the core challenge is remarkably the same: showing up, managing the variables, and refusing to quit when things get heavy.
For years, my life has existed in two distinct worlds. By day, I’m an assistant professor in mechanical engineering, teaching, researching, and breaking down how systems function, how stress is distributed, and how structures hold under pressure. By passion, I’m an ultra-cyclist, mountaineer, and race director with Dquests Adventure Sports Academy, organising and tackling long-distance events, high-altitude alpine climbs, and extreme triathlons from the Himalayas to the plains of West Bengal.
People often ask me, “How do you balance teaching mechanical engineering with organising ultra-distance races and planning multi-day mountain expeditions?”

The truth is, I don’t see them as separate lives. They bleed into each other constantly.
What You’ll Find Here
I’m starting this blog on Medium to document the space where these worlds collide. Moving forward, this space will be home to:
- Endurance & Expedition Logs: Real, unfiltered reflections from the road — from solo bikepacking logistics and high-altitude survival strategies to the mental endurance required for ultra-distance events like the Royal Bengal Express and the Tamralipta Ultra.
- The Physics of Adventure: Deep dives into gear selection, hydration science, pacing strategies, and the technical mechanics that keep us moving forward when human limits are tested.
- Lessons from the Classroom & the Trails: Perspectives on education, youth mentorship through platforms like the National Service Scheme, and how the discipline learned on a mountain ridge translates to everyday professional and academic life.
Why Medium?
Writing has always been the best way to process chaos. When you’re hours deep into a solo ride or staring down a blank research paper, putting thoughts into structured words brings clarity. Medium offers a space free of noise — a community of thinkers, doers, and creators who appreciate a good story backed by genuine experience.
If you are someone who loves the outdoors, pushes your own boundaries, or simply finds joy in figuring out how things work — whether it’s an engine block or your own mental limits — you’re in the right place.
We’re just getting started. Let’s see where the road takes us.
