Take Me Home
The dark, dense cloud — perfect matte black — was hesitatingly looming over me. Over my motionless body.
I could see it, communicate with it, despite being in total limbo, recognizing it intuitively.
“Death, are you here?”
The cloud shook a bit, neither of us surprised at the familiarity with each other. Although I had never thought about HIM, I could feel his friendly vibes, as if we were known to each other forever.
It was slowly inching to cover me, like a blanket to help me sleep. Sleep was evasive in recent times, and I felt relieved.
The room felt cozy. Death and I were the only company to each other.
A bird perched on the bright morning-lit window sill, stalling our union. It chirped a happy note before flying away.
I smiled.
Death smiled.
“It has been a good one, this life. The one now slipping away.”

“Did you remember any of our previous meetings?” Death was curious, although he knew the answer from before.
I had a blank space in the dimension where we had met before..
“No, but you are comforting.”
“Aah, so life was not?” he chuckled.
“Life were life. They kept on happening, in moments uncountable.” I winked.
And a flash of the sum total of all moments came rushing. All at once. Some moments felt extra bright, and the concept of beginning and end was blurred. I could feel all at once, all with the same level of clarity, all with the same objectiveness.
My magenta shiny frock and toothy grin. The quiet temple room in afternoon play. The monster under the bed. The velvet warmth on me, comforting in gentle purrs. The bathroom cries, the laughter untamed. The child within, the child torn from my flesh.
My flesh, pink and then grey.
My light, always protected.
“There is nothing I miss, Death.”
I took one last deep breath and invited him to take me back home.
