Diamond Desires 💎
Have you ever heard of lustre, kimberlite rocks, the strongest covalent bonds of carbon, and one of the rarest precious stones on Earth? Yes, you guessed it right — diamonds!
One day, I was travelling from Hyderabad to Gadwal by train. The train was fully crowded, so I took a seat on the steps near the train door. I was enjoying my own world, watching the beautiful nature outside. Then, I saw a group of women dancing for Bathukamma. What a beautiful scenario to witness from a moving train!
Within a short time, a man wearing a kufi came and sat beside me with a smile. After a while, he started a conversation, asking where I was going and telling me a little about himself.
After some time, he started watching reels about diamonds. Out of curiosity, I asked him whether it was true that some people had found diamonds in Rayalaseema.
He said it was true and explained that people search for diamonds in villages across Rayalaseema, particularly around Gargeyapuram, Giddalur, and other nearby villages. He showed me a reel featuring a diamond and said, “This is a 60-carat diamond. If I ever find a diamond like this, it will be a treasure!” He also explained that the Koh-i-Noor diamond weighs around 105 carats, which I later searched for and learned more about.
It was fascinating to learn that people in these villages are passionate about searching for diamonds. Some people spend days, months, and even years hoping to find one.
He told me about the son of someone he knew who had found a diamond. Some diamond buyers offered him ₹15 lakh, but he refused to sell it at that price. Eventually, another buyer purchased it for ₹80 lakh and 10 tulas of gold.
Out of curiosity, I asked him, “Have you ever gone searching for diamonds?”
He replied, “Yes, of course! I go frequently.”

He told me that he had collected around 1,000 stones over time. They were not diamonds, but he continued searching. Recently, he had found three stones that appeared to have similar characteristics. He had one of them tested, only to discover that it was not a diamond. However, based on his experience, he still believed that the other two stones might be diamonds.
He then explained how diamonds are formed under extreme pressure and temperature deep inside the Earth's mantle. He also spoke about how volcanic activity can bring certain minerals closer to the surface and how, according to local beliefs, the first rains of the monsoon season can reveal stones in diamond-bearing areas.
He mentioned that diamonds are often associated with kimberlite rocks, which are known to bring diamonds from deep within the Earth towards the surface. There is a belief among diamond seekers that finding the right kind of kimberlite rock could lead them to a precious diamond.
He also explained one of the most fascinating characteristics of diamonds: their exceptional hardness. A diamond is the hardest naturally occurring mineral, scoring 10 on the Mohs hardness scale. Unlike most other materials, it can resist scratches from almost all other minerals. This is one of the reasons people find diamonds so fascinating. However, not every hard or shiny stone is a diamond, and proper testing is necessary to identify one.
He also told me about another person he knew who had spent three years searching for diamonds. He lived, ate, and slept there, staying in a small tent while continuing his search. Eventually, he found three diamonds that were reportedly worth ₹27 lakh.
According to him, diamond buyers often purchase these stones for much lower prices and later sell them for many times more.
Listening to his stories made me realise how much hope, patience, and determination people carry in their hearts. For some, searching for diamonds is not just about money; it is about the dream of finding something precious that could change their lives forever.
And now, I have one wish.
I sincerely hope that the two stones he is holding turn out to be real diamonds. I hope that his years of searching, his patience, and his dreams finally pay off. May one of those stones become the treasure he has been waiting for and transform his life.
After all, sometimes, a diamond is not just a precious stone. It is a symbol of hope, persistence, and the belief that one day, fortune might finally smile upon us.
I hope his diamond dreams come true and that he becomes a millionaire one day. 💎
