This year’s Iceman Cometh saw a hefty injection of single-track — a clear contradiction to the common perspective of this event being a “mountain bike race for roadies.”

With no good way to squeeze thousands of humans through a 24" wide trail, some riders described minor bouts of forested congestion. Let’s look at how this shift impacted times, passes, and other insights.

Quick hits

• 30°F at wave 1 start
• Only 27 people with sub 2hr times
• Top amateurs finished in the mid 1 hr 50 m, pros at 1 hr 40 m
• ~32 miles, 3,810 final riders and 54 overall waves

Alt podiums

Important change: This year’s pass counts use CHIP TIME instead of GUN TIME which more accurately counts the people in your wave that you actually passed. We did not have this data in previous years.

That’s a wrap

We’re hoping to see someone break 2000 passes next year. Who’s up for the challenge?

Thank you Iceman Cometh for keeping a wonderful Michigan mountain-bike tradition going for so many years.
