Let me set the scene.

It’s 7 AM. Karachi. I’m reaching for my coffee. I open Facebook not to scroll, not to watch reels — but because I have pages to manage, content to post, a team waiting on me. I’ve been doing this since 2006. Twenty years. Before most current Facebook engineers probably graduated high school.

And there it is. Again.

“Your account has been restricted.”

For the fourth morning in a row.

I put the coffee down. The coffee didn’t deserve what came next.

Who Am I? Let Me Flex for a Second. Just a Second.

I’m Muhammad Tahir Ashraf. You can Google me search “Beyond Tahir” or “Muhammad Tahir Ashraf AI” and you’ll find me everywhere. IBM Watson Silver Partner. PhD researcher. Published author. I literally just stood in front of a room full of Chartered Accountants at an ICAP event and explained the risks of unchecked AI systems.

I have 500,000 followers across Meta platforms. My pages get 5 million views a month. I have invested thousands of dollars in Meta Ads across four verified business accounts. I have produced nearly 500 videos starting from zero, building everything on Facebook and Instagram because I believed in these platforms.

I am not a casual user. I am not a bot. I am not a bad actor.

I am someone who has given Meta twenty years of loyalty, content, and cold hard cash.

And I just got restricted until April 2027 by an AI that flagged private cricket match photos.

I’ll explain.

The Crime. The Actual Crime.

Meta’s automated enforcement system flagged five pages on my account and decided this warranted a year-long restriction. Let me walk you through each one because I genuinely need you to sit with this.

Page 1: fb.me/sonofabun.pk

Zero posts. Not one. Created ten years ago. Has been completely empty its entire existence no photos, no updates, no comments, absolutely nothing. Not a single byte of content ever published.

Meta’s AI found a Community Standards violation on a blank page.

I’ll give you a moment.

Page 2: fb.me/meditech.pk

This was my registered business during COVID-19. We sold masks. Protective shields. Clothing for healthcare workers. Nothing prescribed. Nothing medical. Just the kind of stuff the entire world was desperate for in 2020.

I spent over $1,200 USD on Meta Ads promoting this page across Pakistan. Meta happily took that money. Every single rupee of it. And now, six years later, the same platform has decided this page violated Community Standards.

Selling masks during a pandemic is apparently where Meta draws the line.

Page 3: fb.me/cslpak — Corporate Super League

A cricket tournament page for my company from 2017. We played cricket. We took photos of the match. We uploaded them. That’s the entire content history of this page. Old cricket photos from nine years ago.

Here’s the fun part: an almost identical page facebook.com/corporatesuperleague exists on Facebook right now. Same type of content. Same cricket theme. Running perfectly fine. Not a flag in sight.

Same content. Different treatment. Same platform.

Page 4: fb.me/balochistanexcellenceaward

Let me tell you what this page is.

This is the official page of the Government of Balochistan Excellence Awards a prestigious ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions across technology, business, and public service in Pakistan.

I would know. Because I won one.

In 2022 I received the Government of Balochistan AI Award for my contributions to artificial intelligence in Pakistan. The same government. The same ceremony. The same award.

The page contains highlight photos from the event. Award ceremony pictures. Distinguished guests. Government officials. Recipients being recognized for serving their country.

Meta’s AI looked at a government awards ceremony page the kind of page that exists in every country, on every platform, celebrating human achievement and decided it violated Community Standards.

A page that once featured me receiving a government award for AI contributions was deleted by an AI system that clearly needed a few more contributions from me before it was ready for deployment.

And before you ask yes, similar government award pages operate freely on Facebook right now. The Balochistan Youth Excellence Award page facebook.com/dyabpk — is live, untouched, posting freely. Same type of content. Same government affiliation. Same Pakistan.

Same platform. Different outcome. Zero explanatio

Pages 5 & 6: The Ones I Deactivated Myself

Years ago, when certain businesses closed, I did the responsible thing. I went into Facebook settings and I clicked Deactivate Page. Facebook’s own feature. The one Facebook built specifically for this situation.

Those pages were now being used as evidence against me.

Let me say that again: pages I legally deactivated using Facebook’s own tool were cited as Community Standards violations that justified restricting my active account for a year.

And then, the masterpiece: Tales of Pakistan my storytelling platform that had been inactive for two months and was already sitting in Facebook’s own deletion queue was simultaneously struck as a violation by the same system that was already in the process of deleting it.

Meta’s AI flagged a page that Meta’s own system was already deleting.

The left hand didn’t just not know what the right hand was doing. The left hand attacked the right hand and then filed a complaint about it.

The Support Experience. God, The Support Experience.

At this point a reasonable person contacts support. I am, arguably, a reasonable person. I pay approximately $50 USD monthly across four Meta Business accounts specifically for this kind of situation. So I opened a chat.

Day 1. New agent. Reads from script. Transfers me.

Day 2. New agent. Reads from script. Transfers me.

Day 3. New agent. Reads from script. Transfers me.

Day 4. Enter Pravalika.

Pravalika was different. Pravalika was from the specialized team. Pravalika actually reviewed my account. And Pravalika confirmed in writing, in the chat, with her name on it that my account had zero active violations, that I was fully compliant with Partner Monetization Policies, and that BeyondTahir was fully monetized and in good standing.

Then Pravalika transferred me and left the chat.

Then came Amanda. Amanda was from the technical team. Amanda was going to resolve this. Amanda asked me to hold while she transferred me to a specialized team.

Then came Sophie. Sophie was from the Pro Team. The Pro Team, I was told, has actual backend access.

Sophie reviewed my case for five minutes. Then Sophie transferred me to a specialized team.

I have been transferred seven times. I have spent four to five hours daily in support chats for four consecutive days. I have spoken to more Meta support agents than I have spoken to members of my own extended family this week.

Every single one confirmed my account was clean. Every single one transferred me anyway.

Clean account. Restricted until 2027. Both simultaneously true. In Meta’s world.

The Circular Hell Nobody Talks About

Here is the part that doesn’t get discussed enough: Meta’s restriction also blocked my ability to appeal.

When I tried to submit an appeal, the system told me I didn’t have access to the appeal function. The restriction that was wrongly applied to my account was also preventing me from challenging that restriction.

I was locked in a loop that Meta’s own system built. There was no door. The support agents couldn’t open it. Their scripts didn’t account for it. Their tools couldn’t see it.

One agent and I want to be fair, she was trying — old me to shake my phone and use the Report a Problem feature in the app.

I am paying $50 a month to be told to shake my phone.

What This Actually Means

I’m not writing this because I’m angry. I mean, I am angry, but that’s not the point.

I’m writing this because I teach AI implementation. I speak at industry events about AI risks. I write research papers about how automated systems fail humans. I have a paper literally submitted to arXiv right now about how AI systems can be weaponized against the people they’re supposed to protect.

And I just lived a case study.

Meta’s automated enforcement system:

  • Flagged content that doesn’t exist
  • Penalized legitimate business activity from years ago
  • Treated deactivated pages as active violations
  • Created a restriction that blocks its own appeal mechanism
  • Generated conflicting information between its automated system and its human support team
  • Has been triggering the same restriction every single morning for four consecutive days with no resolution in sight

This isn’t a content moderation issue. This is a broken feedback loop in an automated system that has real consequences for real people and real businesses.

I have 500,000 followers who expect content from me. I have a team that depends on these pages. I have invested twenty years and thousands of dollars into an infrastructure that can be dismantled by a machine that thinks a blank page is dangerous.

What I Need

I don’t need a PR response. I don’t need a form letter. I don’t need another transfer.

I need one human being at Meta with backend access to look at my account facebook.com/tahirmalikx for five minutes and see what Pravalika already confirmed: zero violations, clean account, wrongful restriction.

Five minutes. One human. That’s it.

If you work at Meta and you’re reading this or if you know someone who does please share this. Not because I want to embarrass anyone. Because this is what happens when automated systems operate without adequate human oversight, and the people who can fix it need to know it’s broken.
