A Farewell to UX Chain – The Lost Message That Marked Its Collapse
A farewell buried in the dungeons of Discord, unearthed before it was lost forever.
Sometimes things surface in unexpected ways.
By way of a friend’s friend’s friend, I got hold of a message – this farewell – from Brent Xu, the genius founder of UX Chain, a failed project plagued by poor design and bad debt, now scheduled to close on 15 May 2026.
The farewell itself was posted on 4 April 2026, or so the story goes.
The legend tells the message is buried somewhere in the deep dungeons of an enchanted channel, jealously guarded by a dragon.
So far, I haven’t been able to find it anywhere on the internet.
I’m posting it here for the record – a small piece of history, preserving the words of a figure with a beautiful mind that tried to find equilibrium, but unlike Nash, failed.
Tearjerker, deny it not. I leave the reader now to contemplate in silence.

The Farewell Message (as received)
What we got right, I’m deeply proud of.
We were the first ever lending module in Cosmos. We pioneered the use of historical median pricing to smooth oracle manipulation attacks – a first in this space. We built features equivalent to AAVE v3 nearly a year before their release. We were the first protocol to offer leveraged liquid staking derivatives. We expanded IBC relayer infrastructure. We contributed meaningful improvements to the Cosmos SDK that other projects still benefit from today. And Ojo – our oracle spinout – is thriving. That work, and that team, represent some of the best of what UX Chain produced. I’m genuinely excited to watch where they go.
What comes next?
The Umee Foundation will continue as a dedicated research institute, focused on evaluating and validating developments across the blockchain space. The intellectual work doesn’t stop here.As for me – I’m going to take some time. Breathe. Reflect. The kind of reflection that’s hard to do when you’re sprinting. I’m not ready to talk much about what’s next. Seven years is a long time to care about something, and it doesn’t decompress overnight.I believe deeply that the next chapter of this industry is institutional. Real-world asset infrastructure and Wall Street integrations will bring genuine capital on-chain – that’s where I’m looking. I’ll have more to share when the time is right.I started this to build something that mattered. I think we did – not in the way I originally imagined, and not without scars – but we did.To those who held UMEE and believed in this vision – I know this outcome isn’t what any of us wanted. You took a risk on something real, and I don’t take that lightly.
Final Thoughts.
Thank you to our community. To our validators. To our investors who believed early. To the Cosmos Foundation and the Tendermint engineers who gave us a foundation to build on. To our friends at Osmosis and across the 50+ projects we partnered with over the years. These ideas don’t die with the protocol. They travel forward in the people who built here, the code that’s still running, and the projects still standing. That’s how this works. And I find comfort in that.

And so it goes. RIP UX ex Umee by Xu. And may the souls of lender assets also find their peace in their rightful owners’ wallets.
