Most of what I know today didn’t come from structured guidance or perfect roadmaps. It came from trial, error, curiosity, the willingness to figure things out and most importantly the support of some amazing individuals and OAU Game Developers Community.

This is my first post on Medium, written not as someone who has arrived, but as someone actively becoming and from a place of curiosity.

Hi, my name is Busayo Ayodele, I’m a Game UI/UX Designer and Experience Architect building immersive player experiences at the intersection of games and real time technology. Through my work, I design and implement interfaces that don’t just support gameplay but shape how players feel, navigate, and connect with interactive worlds.

Where it started: fashion as my first design language

Fashion was where everything began for me.

Long before I knew what UI or UX meant, I was a designer, thinking about form, balance, and how ideas translate into something tangible.

I got my first laptop on April 1st, 2022, during my final year at university. My initial goal was simple: fashion illustration. I wanted to create designs digitally, then bring them to life through tailoring.

Fashion was my focus, my comfort zone, and what I believed I would pursue long-term.

What I didn’t realize then was that fashion wasn’t just a passion, it was my introduction to design thinking.

What shifted

Over time, I realized my passion wasn’t limited to fashion design itself. What truly excited me was design itself, solving visual problems, building systems, and communicating ideas clearly through form.

Fashion was the medium, not the destination. Once I understood that, I became open to exploring other design areas, especially interfaces and interactive experiences.

Why game UI/UX stuck

Fashion design, much like traditional UI/UX, can feel heavily saturated. I wanted a space where I could experiment freely, solve complex problems creatively, and stand out through both design and implementation.

Game UI/UX offered that balance. It sits at the intersection of storytelling, interaction, and real-time feedback. Every design decision directly affects how players feel, move, and engage. That immediacy drew me in, and I’ve been building in public ever since.

The Goal

When I started, my goal was simple: to become the best at what I do and one day work for a AAA studio. That ambition pushed me to learn fast, experiment, and embrace every challenge.

Today, my perspective has evolved. The goal is no longer just personal success. I want to build something bigger, a medium through which other aspiring Game UI/UX designers in Africa can learn, grow, and find their own path.

This journey isn’t just about me or the people closest to me; it’s about creating opportunities, sharing knowledge, and uplifting the community.

Lessons so far

Along the way, a few lessons have stuck:

  • God has a way of bringing the right people into my life at the right time.
  • Passion evolves, and that’s okay. What excites you today might not be what excites you tomorrow.
  • Your goals can grow beyond yourself and progress isn’t just about what you build for yourself, it’s about the impact you leave and the paths you open for others.

Over the past 21 months, I’ve worked, and am still working, on some amazing projects that have pushed me overall:

  • Legend of Orisha by Dimension 11 Studio
  • Chess Game Creator by Nairafam
  • X-Pool by Novatrax Studio

These projects have challenged me to solve real UI problems, and even problems outside UI. I don’t have all the answers, and that’s okay.

My goal is to build not just work, but clarity, confidence, and community around what I want to be known for.

If you’re also learning, building, or figuring out your path, I hope this encourages you to share your process too.

Because growth isn’t quiet, it’s visible. And it’s meant to be shared.

Thanks for reading.
