I am your elder sister so I care about you

I can never forget that evening.

It was one of my cousin’s marraige.

It was the night of reception and we all were having dinner.

Me and my Mom were seated on a dining table with our dishes.

Suddenly, one of my elder cousin sisters, arrived.

She was married and had 2 children.

Out of no where, she suddenly started talking about a guy and his family.

It was basically to propose a marraige between me and that guy.

She started sharing things like he is quite wealthy, our daughter will be happy blah blah blah.

Generally, I really get angry when someone talks about my marraige, not because I am against marraiges but I am highly against an Arrange Marraige.

In my eyes, it is nothing but a business deal. But to avoid any conflict, I tell everyone that I don’t want to get married.

So I said the same to her.

Just like any other Indian born, she started convincing me to get married.

Now the problem in India is that nobody asks you things here. People just try to impose their decisions on to us.

She was trying to do the same. Not because she cared about me, but because she wanted to earn some recognition by being a mediator of marraige.

Its kind of a thing here in India.

But what I couldn’t stand at all was one of her statements, “I’m your elder sister. I care about you so I am guiding you.”

I was amazed hearing that.

Where was this sister when I was crying alone at home for several issues?

Where was this sister when my Father and mother under went surgeries?

Where was this sister when I needed guidance on so many things?

It was so prominent that she just wanted the recognition of being a mediator of a marraige.

I couldn’t stand it anymore. I even threatened her that I would leave that dining table if she continued trying to convince me. But she didn’t stop.

So I left the table.

Things like these frustrate me alot.

Forcing people to do when they are clearly shouting and conveying that they don’t want to.

And since childhood, I had to shout and fight for several things.

Sometimes for letting me study more.

Sometimes to let me do a job.

And the list is endless.

As a result, it has become my second nature to refuse anything I am asked to do that I am not willing to.

I don’t know how to get over this, how to forget and move on.

So I just write about it here.
