Kubernetes Imperative Commands — CKAD
The Kubernetes Certified Application Developer (CKAD) exam does not only test your Kubernetes knowledge. How quickly you can find a solution is another skill it tests. Therefore, you should be able to create and update Kubernetes resources without referring to manifest files. It can be done using Imperative commands.
Using kubectl CLI, you can quickly manage Kubernetes resources using Imperative commands. However, they have some limitations. Since those commands are not as powerful and complex as resource definition files. But they can surely save you time in the exam.
In this article, you can find a list of commands I practiced for CKAD. Engraving those commands into your muscle memory will help you solve exam questions quickly.
For this article, I will be using
kas an alias tokubectl.
Please note that the short names of Kubernetes resources used in this document are listed below. Practice using them too, as they save time during the exam. Kubernetes already supports these.
- pods:
po - namespaces:
ns - deployments:
deploy - services:
svc - configmaps:
cm - cronjobs:
cj - serviceaccounts:
sa - resourcequotas:
