Don’t Skip The Electrician: 4 Cost-Saving Reasons To Hire A Professional Electrician, Whether You’re Updating A Fuse Box Or Changing A Ceiling Fan

About three weeks ago, there was a power surge while my hearing aids were charging, and I had to send them in for repairs.

I haven’t heard anything back since…

I hope that was funny enough, because it’s the only joke I’ve got — and if you need better laughs, you’ll need to talk to a comedian, not an electrician.

That’s how it is, though, right? If you want the job done right, you need to talk to an actual expert, and that’s the same whether we’re talking about getting your car fixed, your electrical panel replaced, or your leaky plumbing repaired.

I wouldn’t call my dentist to do any of those jobs, because he’s an expert in teeth, not electricity or water flow.

Now you might be thinking to yourself, “It’s just a little electricity, what’s the harm? What could go wrong?”

Well, I’ll tell you — a lot. A lot could go wrong, very easily.

Worse, though, is that if something does go wrong and you didn’t have the work done by a professional, then it’s all on you. The blame, the cost, and even the cost for other people’s property if the damage spreads.

Nobody wants that, and it’s easily avoidable.

Just hire an expert electrician when you need one, instead of trying to do the job yourself, or hiring your nephew who likes to take apart alarm clocks for fun.

Here are 4 cost-saving reasons why it’s worth hiring an expert, even for the little jobs.

1. Code & Compliance

The first reason is obvious — having an expert do the work means that everything should be up to code, compliant with all laws and regulations, and safe for use in our homes.

If, for some reason, there’s a problem in any of these areas, it’s not your fault — it’s the electrician’s.

You might think this isn’t a big deal, being up to code, but if you have a fire, an electrical failure, or any kind of reason to have the inspectors out… Well, you’ll find they certainly think it’s important.

Without work done by an expert you could lose your insurance, rack up expensive fines, or even cause a disaster, such as a spreading electrical fire.

2. Efficiency & Escalation

Have you ever had a “real quick, simple job” to do around the house, but as soon as you get started, you realize it’s more complicated than you think?

Or worse, maybe you got halfway done, or mostly done, before realizing that you’re missing a part and it’s not for sale anywhere, or you need some specialist tool?

It’s a lot more common than you might think, especially if you’re doing the job right and keeping it up to code.

It may seem like you can save a couple bucks by swapping that ceiling fan yourself, but if you end up spending several full days on it, buying and then returning parts and making rookie mistakes… you’re not saving time or money.

Worse, in the end, you’ll still never be 100% sure that it’s done right, or that it’s safe to stand underneath that fan when it’s going full speed.

3. Little Details & Longevity

Have you ever watched an expert at work, and noticed how they effortlessly manage little tasks with flawless accuracy?

It’s usually because they’ve done that exact same thing hundreds or thousands of times, so they know exactly how to do it perfectly.

Those little details can mean a lot when it relates to your light switches, your fuse panel, or your electric car charger, and it’s not just aesthetic.

By doing everything properly, using the right materials and proper connections, a professional electrician can make sure that everything looks right, works right, and will last the test of time.

You get more than just a proper repair, you get one that looks good, and lasts.

4. Avoid Hazards & Costly Mistakes

Finally, while this is last on the list, it’s still way high up as a priority — hiring an expert means that you won’t electrocute yourself, start your house on fire, or hurt anyone else.

That’s important. It may be the most important reason to hire an expert — because you want to protect yourself, your family, and your home.

Not only is it embarrassing when you accidentally electrocute yourself, but it’s dangerous, and totally avoidable.

It can also cause damage to your electrical infrastructure throughout the entire house — and that would be an expensive repair.

Whether you’re getting a tooth pulled, your car fixed, or your electrical panel repaired — sometimes it’s best to call an expert.

Just make sure you call the right expert for the job, because I asked my dentist, and he doesn’t know which color wire is hot, and which one is ground.
