The
Forest Haunting
Me, Sirinna, Delophina, and Jackolous are unpacking our stuff on a chilly Thursday in November.
We are in a log cabin in eastern North America. It smells like pumpkin spice and there is a hint of mint. The cabin is warm and is hiding us from the coldness outside in this November weather.
I lit the fire to keep us warm because the heater died. I stretch my arms behind me and let out a relaxed sigh of comfort, “(sighs) This is what I call being relaxed.” I say with a smirk.
Delophina joins in,” I agree, it’s so warm and cozy. Who wouldn’t want to be here? This is like a dream come true.” She says with a smile and plops down onto the cabin’s log bunk bed.
Jackolous looks up from his phone and adds, “We shouldn’t be here. I’ve heard bad things about this place.” He says with a serious face.
Sirinna looks at him with a teasing face, “Like what, Ghosts?” She starts laughing as Jackolous frowns. “I’m not kidding. These mountains have strict rules, and I’ve seen videos and I did my research on these mountains.”
I look at him with a confused face as a chill runs down my spine. “Videos of what, and what rules?” I say while I start to walk towards him slowly.
Jakolous continues, “I’ve seen videos of people going there and they went off trail and something bad happened and they went missing. Apparently if you hear whistling or something says your name in the night do not answer or whistle back. Because if you do you are inviting whatever you respond to inside or you’re letting it follow you.”
I freeze mid step and I slowly turn to Jackolous. I look straight into his eyes making contact, “ I guess we will have to go over the rules and be extra careful just in case.”
Later that night we are up watching a horror movie. Sirinna all of a sudden stands up. I look up at her, “ Where are you going?” I ask her. She looks at me and say’s, “ I’m going outside to call Ethan.” I look at her with a serious expression, “Not outside, stay inside.” I say as I grab her arm to stop her. She jerks her arm out of my grip, “Don’t tell me what to do.” She says as she grabs her phone and heads outside.
When she steps outside the cold breeze hits her as she dials her boyfriend’s number. Ethan answers on the second ring, “Hey baby, how is your trip?” He says in a nice and loving tone.
Sirinna smiles when she hears his voice as she starts to walk on a trail, “It’s not going well. The others are convinced there is demonic stuff just because of the rumors on the internet.” She says in a dramatic tone. Ethan chuckles, “Did Jackolous convince them?”
Sirinna all of a sudden stops in her tracks as she hears a distant and faint whistle. “Ethan?” She says in a quieter voice. “Did you hear that?” Ethan makes this confused noise, “Hear what? I didn’t hear anything.” Sirinna shakes her head and continues walking, “Nevermind im probably just hearing things.”
She freezes as she shines her phone flashlight onto a tree. She looks closely and squints her eyes to see it better. She sees weird symbols on it, “What the…” Before she can even finish her sentence she hears something call her name. She freezes as she slowly turns around and sees dark red glowing eyes.
She starts bolting to the cabin. Ethan hears the commotion and starts to worry, “What’s wrong?” He asks with concern in his voice. Sirinna screams and drops her phone then silence. All he hears is a sloshing noise of a liquid hitting the ground and phone.
Ethan immediately calls me and tells me what happened. I look at Jackolous and Delophina, “ Thanks for telling me. We will go look for her tomorrow” I say as I sigh. “No problem, just be careful. Goodbye.” He says as he hangs up the phone.
I tell Jackolous and Delophina everything and we all agree after finding Sirinna we will pack up and go home.
The next day after we woke up and we ate breakfast, “ I told her not to go outside.” I say as I take another bite of my breakfast sandwich. Delophina looks at me with confident eyes,” We will find her.” She says as she cleans her dish.
Jackolous puts his jacket on then tosses me my jacket, “ What are we waiting for? Let’s go look for her and go home.” I nod and I put on my jacket. Us three go outside and go on the path and a couple hours later I see her phone on the ground.

I look at Jackolous, “ Hey Jackolous! I found her phone!” He walks over and grabs it, “ This is hers for sure.” He says as he observes the phone. He looks at the red liquid on it closely.
We continue walking on the path when all of a sudden I feel something drip onto my head thinking it is water, I look up at the tree looming over my head to check if it is raining. And that’s when I see Sirinna nailed onto the tree with a branch coming out of her mouth. I go as pale as a ghost.
I’m too shocked to say anything or to even scream. All I can manage is a whisper, “ Jackolous” I whisper. He doesn’t hear me, “ Jackolous” I whisper a little louder and he turns around to look at me and he sees me looking up. He follows my gaze and he sees exactly what I see.
I look down under Sirinna on the tree and I notice these symbols and I take a picture of the symbols then I put my phone back into the pocket in my jeans. Jackolous follows my gaze to the symbols, “ Are those cult symbols?” Jackolous says with a pale and scared face.
Jackolous looks at me and walks towards me and hugs me, “ It’s getting late we should go.” He says. I nod,” we need to go get Delophina.” I say as I go to get Delophina but when I look at where she is supposed to be, she isn’t there, “What the…” I hear a scream that rips through the forest that someone could hear a mile away.
Jackolous grabs me and starts dashing towards the truck, “ Stop! We need to help her!” I say as tears run down my face. Jackolous looks at me then looks back in front of him and he does not stop running,” It’s too late to help her. We need to help ourselves now!”
We make it to the truck then Jackolous picks me up and sets me in the truck then he checks his pockets for his truck keys but then he remembers he left them inside, “Dang it! I left them inside. I will be back.”
He goes to run inside but then I grab his arm, “ Please don’t leave me!” I say as I squeeze his arm and more tears run down my face. He looks at me, “I will be back I promise!” He says as he squeezes my hand back. I let go of his arm and I watched as he sprinted inside.
A couple minutes later he comes running back and gets in the truck. He turns the truck on then he remembers he forgot his phone, “I will be back I forgot my phone!”
I look at him with this scared confused face, “ Just leave it. I will get you a new one!” I say quickly.
He looks at me, “ It has important information on it! I can’t just leave it!” He says as he sprints back to the cabin, “ Yes you can!” He doesn’t listen and still sprints to get it.
He comes back out holding his phone.We hear something rustle in the bushes not too far from here. He goes to open the door when all of a sudden a goat-like figure pounces on him and starts biting and stabbing him with its long black curled horns.
All I can hear is Jackolous screaming in pain and shock. He tries to grab the door handle to the door and misses it and his bloody hand hits the window and leaves a bloody handprint.
Blood splatters everywhere and I scream. I climb over to the driver’s seat and I slam on the gas pedal and I hit the goat- like figure. It lets out a loud painful scream then runs back into the foggy cold black forests.
I get out of the truck to go check if Jackolous is still alive. I frantically check his pulse. There isn’t one. I look at Jackolous’s cold body with horror in my eyes as a chilly breeze hits the back of my neck.
I slowly slide back into the truck with Jackolous’s blood still on my hands, I start to drive home, traumatized and cold. I was quiet the whole ride to my parents house.
When I get there my parents open the door and they see me covered in dirt and blood. My moms eyes widened, “ Honey are you okay? You’re so pale! Where is Jackolous, Sirinna, and Delophina? You guys weren’t supposed to be back for another week.” She says with a pale face.
I told them everything but they dont believe me and I even showed them the photo of Sirinna but they thought it was a fake photo, “Mom why would I joke about something like this?” I say with a tear stained face. She looks at me like I am crazy, “Because I don’t believe in that stuff.” She says with a face of disappointment.
And till this day they still do not believe me and neither did the cops so the case went cold. A couple years later, it is a warm day in summer, March 16th. I am scrolling through my phone when I all of a sudden get a notification.
I went to check it. “What?! There is no way…” It’s a notification from Delophina. My phone starts ringing and I nearly drop my phone. I look at the contact that is on the screen. It is Delophina.
A shiver runs down my spine as I try to process what is happening.Before I could even think my hand automatically reaches for my phone and clicks the answer button. “Hello?” I say with a shaky tone. “Who is this? Whoever this is, it’s not funny.”
