API module for a URL shortener? But why?

To answer that, let’s first dive into what CuttApi is.

CuttApi is a Python Module developed to work with the Cuttly URL shortener.

CuttApi not only works to shorten URLs but also validates them to a good scale.

But why do we need CuttApi?

CuttApi helps you shorten URLs with ease on your laptop without going to Cuttly’s website, logging in and missing out on some features.

Not to forget, CuttApi reduces code effort which is otherwise highly time consuming.

You just need to enter your Cuttly API key and the module starts, works and finishes the process.

That looks easy to listen, but what’s special?

CuttApi removes the intermediate issues you might face while using the API.

What are the issues people face?

  1. Invalid API Key
  2. URL already shortened or invalid
  3. Invalid alias as it may contain special characters, or the alias is already in use.

When you are using the API, there is an error you might face with any of the issues mentioned which will stop the functioning and you will have to restart the whole process, which is frustrating and time taking.

With CuttApi, you get an additional choice to make a URL with an alias or without it (you can’t directly create a URL with an alias on the Cuttly Website when generating the shortened URL)

CuttApi cuts all that. How?

  1. It validates your API key at the start and starts the functioning only if the key’s correct.
  2. If validated, it checks the URLs using a subsidiary module inside to validate your URLs.
  3. If the URL is good to go, it goes to the next step, else it modifies your URLs through all in-place possible steps to get it to the proper validation. If it doesn’t validate still, you are prompted to enter another URL as the given URL has an issue.
  4. Once the URL is validated, you go forward to whether you want an Alias. If you choose to give an alias, the alias validation starts.
  5. If a URL already exists with the alias, you are prompted to enter another one. If the alias contains special characters, then too you will be prompted to enter another valid alias.
  6. CuttApi waits to continue the process if the API limit per minute gets exhausted.

Anything else?

Yes, Privacy Matters.

CuttApi does not store your data except on your device.

The only data going over the internet is to Cuttly servers for end processing to create the shortened URL.

CuttApi stores data on your device. But how does that help?

If you already created a shortened URL of the one you entered, you can directly use one of them or create another one.

When you create a URL using CuttApi or if you re-enter any URL and decide to use a pre-shortened one, it directly gets copied to your Clipboard.
