Did I Go for a Second NEET Attempt?
After my NEET result, one question started following me everywhere:
"So, are you preparing for NEET again?"
It came from relatives, friends, acquaintances, and sometimes even complete strangers.
For many people, the answer seemed obvious.
"Take another drop."
"Work harder this time."
"Many students crack it in their second or third attempt."
But I was confused yet sure.
A mixed feeling, you know.
Part of me wanted to give NEET another chance.
Not because I was passionate about becoming a doctor anymore, but because I was afraid of letting go.
After all, I had already spent a year on it.
Maybe one more year would make it worth it.
At least, that’s what I kept telling myself.
A few months later, I tried to start again.
I opened lectures.
I made plans.
I watched motivation videos.
I promised myself that this time would be different.
But something had changed.
The problem was no longer Physics, Chemistry, or Biology.
The problem was that my heart wasn’t there anymore.
Every time I sat down to study, it felt like I was forcing myself to walk on a road I had already left behind.
And slowly, I accepted a truth I had been avoiding for months:
Not every dream is meant to stay with us forever.
But there was a cost.
In all this confusion, hesitation, and overthinking, I ended up losing another year.
I didn’t give NEET in 2026.
Many people asked me, "Why didn’t you appear for NEET? It was the paper leak year; you might have had an advantage."
Others said I missed an opportunity.
But the truth is, I don't regret my choice.

At that time, I wasn’t mentally ready for NEET. An exam of that scale already carries immense pressure, and the uncertainty surrounding paper leak allegations only added more stress for thousands of students.
Even today, I see people questioning the achievements of students from those years, saying things like, "They only cleared it because the paper leaked."
I am not saying everyone who succeeded benefited unfairly.
Many worked incredibly hard and earned their results honestly. But I am grateful that I didn’t put myself through an examination when my mind wasn’t prepared for it.
Sometimes choosing not to participate is also a decision.
And for me, protecting my mental well-being and being honest about my readiness was the right choice.
Looking back, I feel peace rather than regret.
In fact, I didn’t give any competitive exam this year yet.
And yes, a part of me still feels guilty for wasting my entire year.
Sometimes I look at people my age moving ahead and wonder if I have fallen behind.
Sometimes I question my decisions.
Sometimes I wonder where I would have been if I had simply continued.
But 2026 is not over yet.
And if I am being fair to myself, this year wasn’t entirely wasted either.
Maybe half of it was.
Maybe even more.
But somewhere between all the confusion, I learned something that I had been searching for since I left NEET.
I finally figured out what I want to become.
For now, it will remain a secret.
Not because I am ashamed of it.
But because I cannot pursue it at this moment.
Still, knowing what I want is a lot better than being lost.
For the first time in years, I have a direction.
Now I just need to find a way to reach it.
And maybe...
Maybe I have finally found the way.
The destination is still far away.
There are still challenges ahead.
There are still competitive exams waiting for me.
But this time, I am walking towards something I genuinely want.
So, wish me luck.
