Why I Ride: The Story Behind Everyday Cyclist
When the world hit pause in 2020, like many people, I went searching for something — anything — that could help me feel more grounded. What I found was a used bike. Nothing fancy. Just two wheels, a frame, and a bit of freedom.
At first, cycling was just a way to get outside, to move, to breathe. But it quickly became more than that. What started as a casual pandemic hobby turned into something I began to crave. Riding made me feel better — not just physically, but mentally too. It gave me space to think, time to reflect, and a new way to experience my city.
Fast forward five years, and I’ve gone from that secondhand starter bike to a ride that fits me like a glove — balanced, dialed-in, and built for the kind of cycling I love. Along the way, I’ve taken the scenic (and sometimes confusing) route through the world of gear, upgrades, tech, and endless advice.

I’ve bought gear that felt overpriced, waded through sales pitches that made me question everything, and spent way too much time trying to figure out if I really needed aero socks (spoiler: probably not, but they do look cool). I’ve also discovered that while the internet is packed with options, sometimes it’s hard to know who to trust or where to begin.
That’s why I started Everyday Cyclist.
This space is for the riders who aren’t racing the Tour, but still want to enjoy the ride. For the weekend warriors, the KOM chasers, the early morning rollers, and the “just one more mile” crowd. It’s for people who love bikes, love riding, and want honest, helpful info without the fluff.
I’ll be sharing what I’ve learned, the gear I actually use, tips I wish I knew earlier, and moments from the road that remind me why I keep pedaling. Whether you’re just starting out or deep into the upgrade rabbit hole, you’re welcome here.
Because cycling isn’t just about watts, gear ratios, or Strava stats.
It’s about the feeling of wind in your face.
The joy of climbing that hill you used to avoid.
The peaceful early morning rides.
The community you didn’t know you needed.
Thanks for reading! If you’re into road cycling but not into the fluff, you’re in the right place. Follow Everyday Cyclistfor honest gear reviews, riding tips, and reflections from the road. New posts coming regularly — let’s ride.
