Reiki Healing at a Distance: How Is a Session Structured?

Distance Reiki is often described in a single sentence: someone sends Reiki while you are somewhere else. That leaves out the part most people actually want to know. Do you have to be online? Do you need to feel something? What happens after the practitioner finishes? I think it is fair to ask all of that before you book a session.

In my practice, Reiki is a spiritual energy practice offered remotely. People relate to it in different ways. Some notice warmth, quiet or emotion; others notice no particular sensation at the time. Neither response is a measure of whether you did the session “correctly.” Here is how I structure my own work, and where your choices fit into it.

Before: tell me what you would like support with

We communicate through WhatsApp. I ask for your full name and date of birth, and you may tell me what you are going through or what you would like the session to accompany. You can be specific without trying to sound spiritual. “I have had a difficult week and I feel scattered” is enough. So is “I am moving through a change and would like a moment of balance.”

You do not have to disclose every private detail. If you prefer, we can begin with a broad intention. A session does not require a video call, and you do not have to match my time zone. That practical freedom is one reason some people choose a remote format. It also means there is no performance pressure: you do not have to report sensations to me while I work.

If you want to prepare, keep it simple. Give yourself a little breathing room in your day if you can. Silence your phone for a few minutes, sit down, or write one sentence about what you hope to make space for. If that is impossible because of work, care duties or travel, you have not ruined the session. Reiki is not a test of how well you relax.

During: the work is on my side

I connect with your energy field, use a pendulum to observe the state of your chakras, and channel Reiki toward the centres that seem to need attention. That is the language of my practice. It should be understood as a spiritual interpretation, not as a medical measurement or diagnosis. You remain free to go about your day while I do the work.

Some people like to rest at the time of a session. Others cannot, or simply do not want to. You may read, walk, work, or sleep. I would not ask you to force a sensation, hold a particular posture, or monitor yourself for signs that something is happening. When we pay too much attention to whether we feel “enough,” it can be hard to notice what we actually need.

The remote format sometimes raises a reasonable question: how can I know what happened? I cannot offer a laboratory reading of an energy field. What I can offer is a transparent account of how I work and a written report afterward. That allows you to see what I observed, reflect on it in your own time, and decide what is meaningful for you.

After: read the report, then notice your own experience

After the session, I send a personalized written report. It describes what I observed in the chakra assessment, how the session unfolded, and simple recommendations for the days that follow. You can come back to it later rather than trying to remember a quick conversation. If a passage does not fit your experience, you do not have to force it to fit.

I often suggest ordinary ways to settle after a session: drink water if you are thirsty, take a short walk, or write down what you noticed. None of these is a requirement or a secret technique. If you felt nothing during the session, you can still ask whether any part of the report helps you understand what you are carrying. If you felt a lot, give yourself permission to rest before interpreting everything at once.

A useful reflection might be: “What feels different, if anything?” Another is: “What does my body need today regardless of the session?” Those questions keep your attention on your real life. They are more helpful than scanning for proof of a dramatic change.

A few boundaries that matter

Reiki can be a personal spiritual practice, but it does not replace medical care, therapy or a treatment plan. I would never ask you to stop medication, ignore a symptom, or assume that a session has cured a condition. If you are worried about your health, contact a qualified professional. I also cannot promise a specific emotional or physical result from a remote session. Experiences vary, and honesty about that is part of respectful care.

You can read the details of my distance Reiki session if you would like to understand the format and the written report before deciding. And if you are still unsure, start with the question that brought you here. A good session begins with knowing what you are looking for, not with pretending to be certain about how you will feel.
