Understanding CDHDR and CDPOS Tables in SAP
In SAP systems, data transparency and traceability are critical. Whenever a business document or master data is changed, SAP keeps a record of those changes.
This is where CDHDR and CDPOS tables come into the picture.
Think of them as SAP’s change history tracker.
CDHDR — Change Document Header
The CDHDR table stores the header-level information about a change.
It answers questions like:
- Who made the change?
- When was the change made?
- Which object was changed?
Key fields include:
- OBJECTCLAS — Object class (e.g., MATERIAL, VERKBELEG, etc.)
- OBJECTID — Object identifier (like Material Number or Sales Order)
- CHANGENR — Change document number
- USERNAME — User who made the change
- UDATE / UTIME — Date and time of the change
- TCODE — Transaction used for the change
You can think of CDHDR as the summary of the change event.
CDPOS — Change Document Items
The CDPOS table stores the field-level details of the change.
It answers:
- Which field changed?
- What was the old value?
