A cigarette
The half-burnt memories know me well,
They know the stories I never tell.
They know who I am, how much I care,
How I hold on to things that were never there.
I carry the weight, I carry the scars,
I chase my dreams like distant stars.
They think I’ll break, they think I’ll fall,
But maybe I was never meant to hold it all.
I breathe in the silence, let the memories stay,
Then watch them slowly drift away.
A blur of dreams, a fading view,
Of all the things I once held true.
I know some things will hurt me deep,
Some memories are hard to keep.
Yet somewhere inside, I still believe
That loving someone sometimes means you leave.
Because love is not always holding tight,
Sometimes it’s letting go into the night.
And when the last memory fades from view,
I learn that letting go can be love too.
Maybe that’s what they never knew,
I wasn’t losing them,
I was finding me too.
