Stringing words together to make sense is writing, alright. But that’s not all writing is about because writing is not just about making sense; it’s a lot more than that. Making sense is just the minimal requirement.

In addition to making sense, your writing must do more — inspire, entertain, or evoke emotions, or all of them at once. But if it does even one of the three, it’s good enough (apart from making some sense, of course).

The writing that does one of the above three can also be just a vehicle of thought or emotion, or be an inspiring tale, and that’s alright, too. But one can always make one’s writing more than just that. It can also be beautiful to read.

The truth is that a lot of people, including me, know what such writing reads like when we come across such a thing of beauty, but most of them — again, including me — cannot quite do it all that well, or at all (like yours truly; okay, this is getting annoyingly repetitive — apologies). Even so, just being able to tell bad writing from good is a good enough
