Don’t Ignore Dryer Trap and Vent Cleaning
Cleaning out your dryer vent is important for several reasons:
1. Fire Prevention – This may surprise you! But lint buildup is highly flammable and can cause a fire if it overheats. Clogged vents are a major cause of house fires. Remove lint after running the dryer each time, and clean the vent out further on a regular basis. There are services that clean the longer vent out for you!
2. Improved Efficiency – A clean vent allows hot, moist air to escape properly, reducing drying times and saving energy. If your dryer suddenly isn’t getting anything dry, it’s probably blocked up.
3. Lower Energy Bills – When your dryer runs efficiently, it uses less energy, reducing your electricity or gas costs. Plus you’re not restarting it a bunch of times to get something dry.
4. Extends Dryer Lifespan – A clogged vent makes your dryer work harder, which can lead to overheating and mechanical failures.
5. Prevents Mold and Mildew – Blocked vents trap moisture, which can lead to mold growth inside the vent or your laundry room. Allergy sufferers and especially those with asthma will want to pay special attention to making sure the dust and lint gets removed!
6. Better Air Quality – Overall, lint and dust buildup can reduce indoor air quality and cause respiratory issues, even if you don’t normally have issues.
Experts recommend cleaning your dryer vent at least once a year, or more often if you use your dryer frequently. We run our washer and dryer pretty much daily, between bedding and rugs and clothes and table linens. How about you?
