A dilemma a lot of people have when learning a language is which dialect should they adopt. Adopting a dialect is not as important as you would think. People who immigrate to the United States will know English but don’t have to sound like a person who lives in that specific city. As long as you can communicate with the locals, you’re okay.

The language is more important than the dialect. When you move around in a particular city or country, you will see signs, menus, magazines and newspapers that are written in that specific language. When you have an understanding of the language, you will understand over 90% of what you read or hear in movies and TV shows. This includes streaming series. The studios want people to understand the language on an international level. So people from the UK, Australia, Canada, The U.S. and other English-speaking countries can understand the language. This includes the non-English language movies and series. They want people from all over the world, regardless of dialect, to understand and follow the story.

Consume content from different parts of the world so you can understand the language spoken with different accents and dialects. When you hear it, you’ll even be able to tell where the speaker is from in many instances. Understanding dialects is more important than adopting the dialect itself…
