Back to the Future: The 2055 Edition — Traffic Lights, Self-Driving Cars, and Why You’ll Never Be Bored on the Highway Again!
Ah, 2050! Picture this: you’re cruising to your buddy’s place across town. But wait, you are not actually driving; your car is. Yes, in 2050, your car is the chauffeur, and you’re just alone for the ride. So, what do you do when the novelty wears off and you’re bored? Count delivery drones, of course! 17, 18, 19… Oh, look, the traffic lights turned white. Wait, white?
That’s right, folks! In the future, traffic lights will be getting a makeover. Alongside our trusty old friends, red and green, there is a new kid on the block: Mr. White Light. This brainy light is all about making life easier for our self-driving cars. Green still means go, red still screams stop, and white? That is for us humans to play “follow the leader” with the car in front at intersections.
Now, these self-driving cars do not even need to see Mr. White Light. They are too cool for that. They get all the gossip — I mean, data — wirelessly. This fancy system tells them the best speed to go and even plays favorites, giving priority to the busier roads.
But what if this futuristic traffic light shows up while we still have our old-school cars around? No problem! If there are more human-driven cars than robotic ones…
