Spy, the Survivor Dog — Part 2: A Second Chance
When we first saw Spy, he was a very small, skinny, and sick dog. He belonged to our neighbor, and it was obvious that something was seriously wrong with him.
We noticed symptoms that looked like distemper. How did we know?
Well, we already had two dogs at that time, and unfortunately, they had also contracted the same disease. We immediately brought them to a veterinarian, who conducted laboratory tests and confirmed that they had distemper. Thankfully, with proper care and treatment, both of our dogs eventually recovered.
And yes… Spy had it too.
Seeing him so weak and helpless, my husband decided that we had to do something.
There was an old little house where we used to keep our goat. My husband cleaned it up and turned it into a small isolation area for Spy. With a lot of courage and patience, he regularly gave Spy his medicine, usually at the same time he gave him food.
As for me, I went to talk to our neighbor.
I told him that we were taking care of Spy and trying to help him recover. He admitted that they didn’t know what else to do for him.
So I asked, “Can we adopt Spy?”
His answer was an immediate YES.
There was no hesitation.

To make it feel like we had officially “bought” Spy, we gave them a small amount of money in exchange. But honestly, we weren’t buying a dog.
We were giving a sick little dog a chance to live.
From that day on, Spy became part of our family.
But then, one morning, something happened that made us realize that Spy had already made a decision of his own.
We opened our door and there he was.
Spy.
Sitting quietly near our doorstep.
Waiting.
We didn’t know what he was waiting for.
Food?
Medicine?
Or perhaps…
a home? 🐾❤️
