Husband loved his soft, cozy slippers. He wore them around the house and sometimes even when he went out.

On the day of his surgery, he wore them to the hospital.

After surgery, his right foot and lower leg were in a cast. He was still wearing a slipper on his left foot.

When they returned home, Wife helped him settle onto the sofa in the TV room. The left slipper remained beside the coffee table.

Days passed.

Every shoe had its mate.

Except one.

One lonely right slipper stood by itself.

Wife felt a sudden tenderness in her heart.

Wife hurried to the TV room, picked up the left slipper, and brought it back to the closet.

Gently, she placed it beside the right one.

Left and right.

Side by side.

Together again.

Two ordinary slippers stood quietly next to each other.

Nothing extraordinary had happened.

Yet something beautiful had been made whole.

Some things are simply better together.

May those who belong together always find their way back to each other.
